In the BB facing a SB steal In the BB facing a SB steal

I was going through my stats today, and checked the situations where I'm in the big blind, and action is folded to the small blind who raises. (and it's not HU preflop)

Shockingly, I found I was losing a ton in this spot despite being heads up with position every time. I guess it is natural because the SB open raising indicates he has an above average hand whereas I have a random hand, but I would not expect to lose so much here. Almost losing as much as if I just folded every time (which would be -100 BB/100).

Does anyone actually show a profit in this situation?

Can anyone else post stats for comparison? In HEM1 go to Report: 4 - Leak Buster - Pre-flop, and setup Filter: Position = BB, Position of First Raiser = SB (on the Main Filters tab), and # of Players More Than 2.

How should one play in this spot?

Do your stats permit you to see how the results vary if you 3 bet?

Obviously you lose 100/100 if you fold every time, but how do you fare if you are more aggro in these spots (assuming you have at least some kind of hand, of course.)

I have pretty much the same stats only I am loosing a bit less and defending a bit less than you.

600 hands is a very small sample. I checked my stats: 5800 hands, evbb/100 -29, vpip 47. In some stakes I was winning 30 evbb/100 in 1000 hands, but it's just variance.

I think I know what the problem is, Kittens. You are good at betting and raising, but no so good at calling. IP with a weaker range than villain is a spot where you don't often have a hand with high bettability.
