Villain was 75/20 fish. Is the turn raise correct, and should I bet the river (either for very thin value or to bomb him off a high-only hand)?

Poker Stars $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Omaha Hi/Lo - 6 players

CO: $12.80
BTN: $32.36
SB: $87.54
BB: $4.43
UTG: $25.00
Hero (MP): $40.15

Pre Flop: ($0.35) Hero is MP with A 3 7 9
1 fold, Hero raises to $0.75, CO calls $0.75, 1 fold, SB calls $0.65, BB calls $0.50

Flop: ($3.00) 5 8 9 (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, CO checks

Turn: ($3.00) 2 (4 players)
SB bets $1.43, BB folds, Hero raises to $6.25, CO folds, SB calls $4.82

River: ($15.50) J (2 players)

Obvious bet after you take that line on the turn.

Yep, make a large bet on the river. I think that's the right line on the turn too.

edit: saw it's NL. could shove river IMO, try to get him off better highs/a3 if he has it

Yeah sorry, my title for the post is confusing, it's NL08 not PL08 (was playing various tables of both at the time).

I think turn raise, river shove is good especially against a weak player. He's probably calling you too wide on the turn and folding a lot of splits on the river and calling a lot when he is quartered.

I potted the river and he called with AA35 to 3-quarter me. Guess I played it correctly (apart from shoving instead of potting the river) and ran into the top of his range. I just questioned myself at the time that betting the river with such a weak high was the correct play.

I kinda knew you got quartered, otherwise you wouldn't have thought about the hand and just moved on. Wp anyway.

Thanks. Say I didn't have a pair of 9s, so I had no high whatsoever. Would it be correct to still pot/shove to make him fold a high?

Usually, no. You get action from hands that quarter you and he shouldn't really be bet-folding high-only hands.

No. TBH the play is actually for value more than a bluff.

I always shove in this spot unless stacks are very deep. Given the action, you're not going to get quartered very often at all. In this hand you have roughly 2x pot so I would stick it in. I think it's a pretty big mistake vs his range to do anything else. You just happened to run into the goods on this hand.
