It's the power of his supporters. We're by now all familiar with their excellent argumentation and lucid points on substance, as can be seen through the various threads on these boards. But there's more. McCain is an inspirational figure, inspiring all manner of creative displays of support that are sure to touch others. Like, for example, this.

I dont think Mccain has any shot of winning this coming election. Its has nothing to do with how qualified he may be but more so the party he is in. The democrats have a lock on this one whether its Hillary or Barack.

The current times have been politically difficult for the GOP. The perception of change is at the forefront of this election and because Mccain will not be able to distance himself from Bush he is destined to lose.

That may be true of GOP candidates but what that points out to me is that the distancing from Bush is what will win this election and Mccain obviously cant do that as effectively as the democrats can.
