Why don't you American ACists just move to New Hampshire? Why don't you American ACists just move to New Hampshire?

I did not know this until today, but from wikipedia:

"New Hampshire was the first U.S. state to have its own state constitution, and is the only state with neither a general sales tax nor a personal income tax at either the state or local level."

i bet they have decent sized property taxes, though.

But ya, I'm going to try to move there (job depending obv )

New Hampshire's sweet. I went up there and swam in one of the natural springs; it was cold as hell but a lot of fun.

Is this just common knowledge about the no income taxes there? I mean, I knew the state motto was "Live Free or Die" but I didn't think they actually meant it.

If Nielso and Borodog aren't from there then they have no excuses.

my parents have a vacation house there in the white mountains, and yea its pretty sweet. liquor is cheap as hell too. they do get you pretty good in the property taxes, but its still a fair trade off if its your primary residence.

I don't really get why you think no sales tax and no state income tax makes it necessarily the best place for someone who values freedom.

You still pay federal income tax, you still have to use a fiat dollar, you still have people around the world killing in your name. You still live in a society where everyone accepts the basic democracy premise, and so you have plenty of state and local intrusions, even if they're not quite as bad as elsewhere.

It's like if you took a little sugar out of a certain soda; it doesn't make it a health drink. Even if I value health, if I'm stuck choosing between 10 sodas I won't necessarily pick that one.

It's certainly common knowledge in New England. Lots of people in Massachusetts buy expensive items (or simply alcohol) in New Hampshire to avoid sales taxes

Years ago, it was political death in New Hampshire to suggest the state should have a income or sales tax.

Slater, we usually pay three income taxes over here. The largest by far is federal tax and they demand you pay it everywhere you are in the world.

Also, I thought it odd that you mentioned the State Constitution. I'm not down with obeying documents I didn't sign no matter how old. Why would that make an ACist want to go there?

Also, it's cold.

I've just found freekeene.com. Freedom blogging from Keene, NH.

Does New Hampshire fingerprint people crossing the border when you enter from Canada?

They are also one of the early states to vote in the elections. I keep hoping some libertarian will move to that little town that votes at midnight since they always show the results on TV. Would be pretty funny if it was 17-R, 10-D, and 1-L.

FWIW, TN also has no personal income tax, though I suspect that's going to end in the next few years.

I like the fact that you can buy booze at highway rest stops.

Why would it end? TN has an overwhelmingly Republican State Legislature and will most likely have a Republican Governor. I can't see them ending it.

Living free doesn't mean only considering what kind of state tax you pay.

I'm a Euro btw.

Because they need monies? It's been floated a couple of times recently, pushed specifically by the governor. They'll keep pushing.

Nevermind, I thought when it said 'no income taxes' it meant federal. These wannabes aren't free afterall.

my Inlaws retired to NH several years ago. You can see Mt. Washington from their back yard (yes that place that holds the record for the highest recorded surface wind speed ever).

I went to visit about a year after they got settled and have been back exactly one time for 17 hours since (to drop off grand children to them).

I'm all for freedom and low taxation and small government but it's just too bloody cold up there for this NYer!

Also.....thinly veiled brag about living 7.5 hours from my inlaws!

When I was a kid my family drove to the top of that in a van, I almost lost my ****in lunch. You can see right over the side of the damn mountain. I got to see the Old Man In The Mountain too before his face fell off!
