I think the idea is to respect others and their right to be different in a free and civilised society.I prefer to use the word pluralism to diversity because that's what it means.Live and let live.

Hey, i'm all for that! I support freedom... but when some college has "QUOTAS" to guarantee that x% of the student body is chinese x% is black, etc etc. they do that in the name of "diversity". in other words, they rate people not based on their potential (test scores) but on their "differentness"

when I was applying for the university of chicago, I was told that for me being a brazilian I had many times over the chance of being accepted than an american with similar test scores

I call that BS!

and everyone thinks its a shame that certain indian tribes of the amazon are "extinct" because they assimilated to modernity... but what shame is there in erradicating the practice of living in huts, dying young, lots of disieses, and their "culture" sucks, they dont have condoms so they have to kill babies when they are born and unwanted, and also there are all sorts of sick pain rituals the males have to undergo

when the spanish conquered the meso americans, i say you cant fight it, its nature and simply survival of the fittest... backward people always lose in the end

quotas may be illegal but that doesn't stop schools from reverse discrimination, not at all

True

You get around quotas being illegal with the "disparate impact" line.

They don't get around quotas that in that there is no set amount of protected people or diversity in the process, just a generic diversity requirement that still discriminates ( just not in a quantitative way, in theory)

It still sucks if you ace a promotion exam but don't get promoted because there isn't enough diversity in your winner's circle.

I think we are talking about two different things here. The original topic was college admission standards and I think your talking about employment law. I think they use two different standards ( but Id have to look it up to make sure)

I think it's nice to try and save most life forms, but I fully support eradicating mosquitoes, even if a few dozen or even hundred other species die as a result.
