My friend's a fairly lapsed Catholic and she hadn't heard that one before, but it's a tenet of 'dispensationalism', which is common in American churches. Our Lord's teachings do not apply in the current 'dispensation' (the 'age of grace' or 'age of the church', lasting from the Crucifixion to the Second Coming). They will only apply after the Tribulation and the Second Coming, when Our Lord returns to reign in glory (well, actually in Jerusalem, which is a bit of a dump, but there you are) for a thousand years till the Last Judgement.

Until then, it is evil to follow Our Lord's teachings and all supposed 'good works' are motivated solely by vanity. The only good things are wealth and self-advancement. Trump ran on Clinton being corrupt via The Clinton Foundation but ironically the Russian hack cleared the Clinton Foundation of any pay to play. Reporters couldn't find any indication of pay to play even from the internal emails. If, and of course if, people knew what they know now, of the two, Clinton is by far the less corrupt politician.
