I don’t think she literally doesn’t know any Spanish phrases at all. She wants to engage in normal office chit-chat and you do need to put in some work to do that. OK, she could take night courses or whatever on her own time, still seems like a heavy lift for someone just for the sake of routine office banter.

She literally isn't saying hi to people, in either English or Spanish. I guarantee you that every single one of those Spanish speakers knows how to say "Hi." There's no way she doesn't know "Hola."

I mean, for ****'s sake, I knew "Hola," way before high school Spanish just from TV shows and stuff using a word or two of Spanish.

If she was so interested in having conversations, she'd at least say hi to people in SOME language. She's not.

She's being painted as someone who deserves sympathy because she can't talk to people. Some of those people HAVE made an effort to talk to her, and she has not reciprocated or made any effort to talk to them in any language.

the clear solution here was to mandate that everyone there learn a language they didn't want to. Teach everyone french, done deal. She's happy because she thinks all french people are white, her coworkers are happy because french and spanish are basically the same language.

I worked in a card room at the pai gow table. People spoke mostly Cantonese, tagolog, Spanish and a few others with a little English sometimes, but mostly never. I learned a bit of all of it, but also tuned out most of it. I have zero doubt I’d be happier back doing that job with zero English than working in a chicken factory with English only.

I wonder how happy the other chicken factory workers are with their employment?

i got in an argument about this today with a deplorable who said, well cps has to run down every tip when it comes to kids and do full interviews and that he shouldnt get special treatment. bull****. you dont think CPS gets hundreds of fake calls about public figures kids? if i called cps and said i know that baron trump is being abused, do you think they;re going to run that down, and put it through the full procedure?

No way, in 10 years we'll have apps that translate languages perfectly and instantaneously. I've often considered boning up on all the Spanish I've forgotten but at this point it's really not worth it.

I'm trying! Got 3 people to register to vote and sign up for early ballots in the primary.

I spent 20 minutes trying to convince someone to vote today, but they wouldn't budge. He comes from a family of right-wingers so it's probably for the best in terms of helping Dems.

There was nothing in that article from the prospective of any of the Spanish speakers, which really annoyed me.

I'm really surprised nobody has tried the tactic of calling police on white people, disingenuously, claiming they look suspicious at x campus or y neighborhood...

You would think at least some percent of the time, the victim might realize and/or begin to understand a little of what racism is after realizing what was really going on and why someone would do it to them.
