The Tragic Death of the Republican Party The Tragic Death of the Republican Party

not sure if this has been discussed yet but somehow Ted Cruz brought up a Nazi Comparison during his marathon filibuster session

"If you go to the 1940s, Nazi Germany," Cruz said. "Look, we saw in Britain, Neville Chamberlain, who told the British people, 'Accept the Nazis. Yes, they'll dominate the continent of Europe but that's not our problem. Let's appease them. Why? Because it can't be done. We can't possibly stand against them.'

There is a point at which anger and resentment harden into a bitterness that renders people irrational.

Speaking from the right wing of the GOP, I got to say that a lot of my ilk scare the heck out of me these days.

They say cruz is smart. If you talk for 21 hrs without saying anything smart, you're not smart. Hard worker tho.

In an amazing ironic twist, Cruz started quoting from "Green Eggs and Ham". A book in which somebody refuses to eat green eggs and ham because of what they think it will taste like based on its looks, but by the end of the book finds out they like it...

Ted Cruz has found a way to milk enormous amounts of campaign $$$ from the AM radio crowd. He's like a folk hero for the Teabaggers. It's a solid hustle and I respect that.

Texas filibuster > USG filibuster

Cruz is Limbaugh with a vote, this is all a pure money play. He knows exactly what he is doing.

I'm enjoying the pic going around of Cruz praying on the street at the White House overlayed with this little verse from the bible:

http://biblehub.com/matthew/6-5.htm

"Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.

Whooooooooooooooopsie

It's hilarious. Some of the crazier people in my circles are treating this whole thing like it's laying out the red carpet in 2016.

Oh joy. Cruz is leading a run around the Republican leadership.

My cousin who lives in NJ (closet racist, thinks Obama is from Kenya, hates everything he stands for, etc.) is openly bragging on Facebook how proud she is of Cruz to stand up to the socialist dictator. She's now thinking of moving to Texas to support Cruz. She legit doesn't understand why people are laughing at her. She just assumes everyone hates Obama because everyone in her little circle does.

This is exactly my experience. I tried talking to them like people, and it's just crazy. Heard things like "We got 100 million people and 200 million guns" and "we will never give up our country!" When I asked why they were optimistic about repealing Obamacare (or for freedom in general), they don't have any answers, but man are they passionate about them.

Oops, I forgot they did have one plan to repeal Obamacare: 50 statewide recall elections.

Repub talking points really interesting. Convinced ppl hate Obama Care and obama should just fold but terrified that obama doesn't fold. They've bet a bluff like a boat and are doing anything possible to avoid showdown--they may try to pull the fire alarm or fake a heart attack.

A lot of states don't allow recalls lol

"Daddy what caused the panic and depression of 2013?"

"Well one political party disliked the other political party's health care reform law, so they shut down the government and defaulted on the debt. This crippled the global financial system."

We have basically the perfect circumstance for a disaster. Very stupid people who care only about looking strong to the small group of other very stupid people with whom they associate.

Well, it is essentially the one way for Republicans to be right about Obamacare. If they hate Obamacare so much that they default, then I guess they can kinda sorta blame Obamacare for the downfall of the United States.

There's no room for logic here! ONWARD WITH 50 RECALL ELECTIONS!

I would love to audit all the AMERICANS FOR AMERICAN FREEDOM non-profits.

Oh wait.

Seriously though, this is a pure money play for so many people. Those 'donations' sure as **** aren't ultimately ending up anywhere legitimate.

Suppose you thought that the Republican coalition is fracturing, that traditional Republican leadership can no longer hold the party together, and that the leadership is too willing to capitulate to its political opponents on the left.

Suppose you are also convinced that Obamacare will be a total disaster. Once in place, constituencies will form that will make difficult to repeal, yet it will make most ordinary Americans deeply unhappy. Obamacare will be the big-government equivalent of crystal meth: an addictive substance that destroys your health. When the public finally realizes, it will abandon the Democrats in droves and look for an alternative.

If you think both these things are true, then what Ted Cruz is doing makes some sense. Cruz wants to take over the Republican Party.

One thing's for sure everywhere in the world - people hate their UHC and look longingly at the US model. And Massachusetts, Hawaii and seniors in the US.

I love my free insurance. Or at least I assume I would if I ever used it. Maybe I should go break a bone or something before I file my next tax return and have to start paying for it.
09-27-2013 , 10:41 PM
If logic existed in the US political system, Romney would have run on RomneyCare and Obama would have run on UHC. Instead Romney and Obama both ran on RomneyCare. And even still here we are.

Democrats generally suck. Republicans are the absolute ****ing worst.

This is mostly an irrelevant tangent, but I recently spent several weeks in Brasil. It was amusing how many people there still hold up the US as an example of the place where everything works well. It was surprising to many Brasilians to hear me explain that US health outcomes are about the worst of any developed country, given the amount that we spend to get them.

Of course I get that it's all relative and such, but the BRICS countries will soon be our cohort in public health issues if Republicans get their way, so I guess we can take solace that some of them still envy our healthcare.

Mr Gallup would like to have a little chat with you:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/164078/am...ealth-law.aspx

You make it sound as if there is no basis for the bolded. Seemingly there is reason to believe Obamacare is unpopular nationwide. Maybe not among the readers of The Nation or in the dorm room, but the polls tell a fairly consistent story.
