How the **** is this thread still going. Like, why would you keep responding to FoldN.

Not exactly, but my main conjecture is that there are 100s of professors dropping 100s of n-bombs in front of 100s of students every year and nobody bats an eye because people don't ACTUALLY get offended in an academic setting if that word is used in a non-offensive way, and especially if it's used to illustrate racism.

I can only speak from my own experiences as I don't think there are official polls of this, but it's just another point addressing the boogeyman nature of this mythical problem.

Speaking of argumentative and logical fallacies, finding one boogeyman in one closet doesn't indicate boogeymen (boogeymans?) in every closet with peer-reviewed scientific papers concerning the boogeyman population and its natural habitat in the closets of university classrooms.

An example of the argument to moderation would be to regard two opposed arguments - one person saying that slavery is always wrong, while another believes it to be legitimate - and conclude that the truth must therefore lie somewhere in between

Actually what they should rename the SMP forum and nails FoldN (and his brethren) perfectly. See his chain letter thread from last year for another example where he repeatedly chastises liberals for not conceding there is truth in the idea that the average "Jose illegal" is a welfare moocher who makes 100,000 a year. There must be a middle ground!

"Two opposing sides don't necessarily have two compelling arguments. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke on that mall in the capital, and he didn't say, 'Remember, folks, those southern sheriffs with the fire hoses and the German shepherds, they have a point, too.' No, he said, 'I have a dream. They have a nightmare. This isn't Team Edward and Team Jacob.'"

And it'd be one thing if it was pure. There IS the idea of the eternal optimist who doggedly and dogmatically wants to believe that groups of people can't really be as crudely stupid and evil as they appear. Unfortunately, it's usually not this genuine article and instead is false and insidious

If what was pure?

A pure mistake with good intentions, the argument to moderation because you really just want to believe all people are good with good ideas. It's rare though.

Rare indeed. Who just fell off the turnip truck and believes that?

Does Foldn seem like Pollyanna?

Nobody believes that, but they want to believe it and this results in the fallacy.

No, Foldn is not the genuine article. You were witness to my epic battle with him a year ago. The "what makes a law racist?" thread. He pulled a Duran to my Sugar Ray and went full NO MAS.

If it was epic vs. Foldn you made mistakes along the way.

Like, the more you dodge this question, the more suspicious you seem. We all know you're still reading my posts.

Just go to thefire.org, maybe listen to their podcasts. https://www.thefire.org/sotospeak/

They've been tracking free speech violations on campus for nearly two decades. The bulk of my arguments are theirs.

It is not all about finding moderation, but the intrinsic value and utility of civilized and respectful conversation. Before I met Foldn I was too disrespectful and angry to engage with white society. Since he has exposed we to Western culture, however, I have learned the value of liberal thought, Bayesian analysis and performing cunnilingus. And he has shown my sister, a model, how to love again.

Clearly your posts are just on far too high a level for them. They can't handle someone of your intellectual heft.

It's amusing to watch you defend posters, many of whom you would insta ban from here, simply to avoid agreeing with me.

Still it's better than agreeing with someone who posts his sources from a place where teenage girls post porn.
