Liberals arent the ones in danger of being marginalised as irrelevant. Whether intentional or not you did do a good job showing one systemic flaw of the right - namely your views are the only ones that matter and because you "love America" (or more accurately a caricature of it) those who have different views do not.

I pretty much agree with this. If there were a type of figure that the Republicans direly need at this point, would be strong leader whos religion is both unquestionable and part of base. However, this person's political persona was that of the government needs to GTFO people's lives. I'm thinking someone who is a Protestant minister or something but believes America's whole separation of church and state, and religiously subscribes to the Rome is for Roman's thing. It would be a hard thing to pull off, but doesn't seem impossible to me by any stretch.

If this story is to be believed, the Democrats have their problems too.

This. The gop may change a great deal in the future, with any luck delegating the social conservatives to the fringe, but the nature of the system isn't going to change.

There are a lot more social conservatives than economic conservatives in the GOP. More likely that they start embracing some entitlements than suddenly doing a 180 on gay marriage, poker and the like.
