What is Trump's power to unilaterally impose a '20% tax on all imports from Mexico'? Does he even have that power or does he have to go through Congress? Not that the GOP won't cave on such a core belief of theirs.

Does repeating this apologetic mantra make you feel better? People voted for Trump because they were pissed off about the establishment ignoring them/ make them feel ignored.

At the moment Trump does the things he promised, or at least makes it seem as he would. We all hate those things because they are idiotic, but he killed TTP, makes it look like he is building a wall and reign in big government. For his supporters he is getting **** done.

Lets not forget, congress was already a a punch of people bought by corporate interest before Trump, so people (maybe even rightfully) don't give a **** what the press or the congress thinks. They hate them, so Trump giving them the finger is not a problem. Lets not forget that the US had this coming for a long time.

Trump supporters will turn quickly when he doesn't deliver. Because then he is one of those they hate.

Good riddance to Patrick Kennedy and his ilk.
Because if you read the rest of the article you see the state department has a unique beuracracy that requires someone experienced with it to effectively manage. There is no private sector analogue where you can just bring people in.

I suspect we will see a lot of lifers further down retire/resign for numerous reasons including all this puts them at much greater risk.

But Benghazi. Guess can't have Benghazi if you eliminate the state department.

looks like Trump can do it unilaterally

Maybe he's saying it for the base knowing congress will never pass the tariff. One can dream.

On top of the legal issues, the tax will mostly be passed on to the consumer, so it will be them that "pays for the wall".

perhaps you missed the washpo survey about trump supporters? nearly 20% literally refused to admit clear physical evidence. 40% claimed that pictures from obamas inauguration were actually pictures of trumps.

when presented with clear evidence a large portion will not go against him. you think they wont be easily swayed by whatever bs argument they present? esp if it blames ppl they hate?

dude, you simply arent paying attention.

Fu trump voters!

(Nobody tell them a tariff will just lead to higher prices for them as they pay for the wall not Mexicans.

I would not be surprised if we are not eventually put under a wide spread embargo by half the world because our insane administration.

Yeah I'm well aware consumers and us exporters are going to pay. Just wasn't sure of the logistics.

I mean, if we're going to start a trade war that will put us in a massive recession, let's do it with a country that doesn't have nukes. A massive trade war with Mexico is legitimately something that could cause the GOP to lose both houses of Congress, so it's one way to stop the bleeding.

It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.

US imports are roughly $300B a year, so this would cost us $60B. I don't think Republicans would let this happen, but who knows.

I have a feeling we're gonna hear trump declare that "We have no choice." again
POTUS45 keeping Mexico's president from overstaying his visa and becoming an illegal alien imo.

I will not presume the GOP congress will stop Trump at anything until they actually do. They know how popular the wall is with their constituents.

I think your math is as bad as Trump's.
So explain to me why 10 miles of carpool lane costs $1.1B and takes 8 years?

This. They're either spineless or corrupt.

What's the % you'd bet even money on: How much % of the USA-Mexico border is covered with a wall before Trump's presidency is over? Anyone going higher than 5%?

0%. He's liable to get himself domed by the CIA or a lone wolf at this rate.
