This article has some insight that isn't discussed enough: Trump is flailing so badly that he induces significant reaction against the policies he supports.
I think all of this should increase people’s concern about backlash effects. Contrary to what some of my conflict theorist friends seem to think, civility and honesty are not always pointless own-goals in politics. If you’re sufficiently repulsive and offensive, you can also end up damaging your own cause.
As I’ve pointed out before, backlash can sometimes be a necessary trade-off to energize your base. But as I’ve also pointed out before, people tend to overestimate the importance of turning out the base, and to underestimate the importance of not having everyone hate you. So if I were a Trumpist, I would be very worried right now.
He just wings it, except that he doesn't accept or internalize criticism, so he's unable to calibrate how to wing it so that it would be helpful to him.
Wading into a racially-charged case from his past, Donald Trump indicated that the "Central Park Five" were guilty, despite being officially exonerated by DNA evidence decades after a notorious 1989 rape case.
"They admitted they were guilty," Trump said to CNN in a statement.
"The police doing the original investigation say they were guilty. The fact that that case was settled with so much evidence against them is outrageous. And the woman, so badly injured, will never be the same."
I found that not on twitter but by googling "Isikoff"
Literally the first three hits when I googled that were links to stories from Daily Caller, Fox News, and Washington Examiner. Because, you know, Google biased Dems arghblargh
I went looking for that Isikoff story, literally the only “reporting” being done on it is by the RWNJs. Fox, Daily Caller, Washington Examiner, Daily Stormer, etc.
You can likely guess why.
