I'll believe it's starting to happen when I see a significant drop in Trump's approval rate. If it stays around 40%, I simply don't see the endgame for any politician who abandons Trump.

It's never going below 40%. Nixon didn't even drop below 40% until the famous 17.5 minute gap in White House tapes was made public.

I'm sure individual polls have had him lower, but 538 consensus has never dipped below 36%

I do see a scenario, if the Mueller report shows definitive coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign, where the establishment right will have to wash their hands of this administration.

I mean staying below 40% for a decent amount of time, he's dipped below before but it always seems to last about a week before he hops back up to ~40%. It's going to take something like a recording of him calling his supporters ****** hillbillies or something to get them to abandon him, and even that example probably wouldn't do much.

No, he's going down. It's been pointed out on Twitter by lawyers that his presidency turns into a pumpkin once he leaves office. Being president is the only thing that saves him.
