The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

I don't think they were afraid of BLM assaulting them though. They were just afraid if they expounded on their theories about bootstrapping, the welfare trap, reverse discrimination and such they might not be able to count on everyone thanking them for their thoughtful contribution.

If these people were afraid of Black Lives Matter, then talking about MS-13 will definitely work.
idk. The "threat" from ISIS is rather existential. MS-13 is not, you need to show people violence happening around them. Gillespie ran against Northam on an MS-13 platform and got crushed relative to what was expected to be a close race.

I'm not sure, but it definitely isn't referring to this lawsuit:

Federal judge slaps down DOJ's suit against California's sanctuary state policy

Quote:
The judge said California was within its rights to allow state authorities to inspect immigrant detention facilities, and to bar state law enforcement agencies from providing release dates or other personal information to federal immigration authorities. He blocked portions of one law which imposed heavy fines on businesses that gave immigration authorities access to their facilities and records without a court order.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D) hailed the decision as “a strong ruling against federal government overreach.”
Quote:
Mendez, though, was skeptical of the government’s arguments about the other laws. While the federal government might like California to help more in cracking down on illegal immigration, he said it was “entirely reasonable” for state leaders to have determined that “assisting immigration enforcement in any way, even in purportedly passive ways like releasing information and transferring custody, is a detrimental use of state law enforcement resources.”

My Trumpkin cousin shared this as evidence of how much MAGAing has happened.

Very first point of the article:

"In 2015, the Obama administration gave workers a win on this one: It issued a guidance document explaining how the Department of Labor would interpret the law, outlining the economic tests it employed in determining whether an employer was misclassifying its workers. The agency had been using that policy in enforcing the law, but putting it in writing sent a clear message to employers across the country that the Obama administration was serious about cracking down on worker misclassification.

On Wednesday, the Trump administration withdrew the guidance document."

Uhhhhh wat?! So 'economically anxious' blue collar Trumpkins celebrate their owners being signaled that they can continue misclassifying them in order to avoid offering benefits and to decrease their tax obligations???

Point #2 praises Trump for temporarily avoiding the trade war he promised to start with Mexico, lol and that's as far as I'll go.

I thought the "genius" of Trump is that he didn't use dogwhistles. He just spews the hate without any pretense. If so, then it would seem that substituting "MS-13" for "Hispanics" would actually be suboptimal vis-a-vis energizing his base. Obviously it would alienate Hispanics but I'd assume they're mostly already alienated at this point.

Last poll I saw showed that he had > 2x higher approval from Hispanics than from blacks which I cannot wrap my head around.

Not that surprising, just political inertia. W got like 44% of the Hispanic vote.

What's amazing is that the economy is doing so well and yet Trump still has a horrible approval rating. A reasonable President with an economy this good should be looking at historically-high approval ratings.

If conservatives could ease up even slightly on the racism they'd run the country forever. Hispanic folks love them some traditional christian family values and also love the bootstrappy american dream narrative.

It's all bull****. I forget who first brought this up here but just look at how many tears Republicans shed about "economic uncertainty" and "government picking winners and losers" from 2009-16, and then look at how radio silent the GOP has gone on that very important issue when their president started throwing down reckless, industry-altering tariffs because trade wars are good and easy to win.

Yeah but W speaks Spanish and wasn't openly hostile to Hispanics, legal or otherwise.

Yep, also Cubans lean GOP by a fair margin because I guess Bay of Pigs? Also Cubans get welcomed if they can make it to Dry Land so they don't have to worry about having their kids put in cages.

Historical highs prob aren’t possible with current polarization. Should be around 55% though.

Much of the Cuban community were people who fled the revolution. They are anti-leftists, anti-communists and they see the GOP as their place. There were many Cuban Americans staunchly in favor of the US invading Cuba. Some Central American immigrants, though not nearly as many, have a similar history. Anna Navarro for example. Her father was a Contra. Vietnamese who fled Vietnam similarly were largely Republican, though that is changing with the next generation.

Any lawyers in here have any theories? Is this as weird as it seems to a lay person?

I have a theory:

My theory is that Avenatti sucks and is an attention whore
07-06-2018 , 03:48 PM
Yea that much is obvious.
07-06-2018 , 03:49 PM
but would michael cohen be in the spot he is right now (and cooperating) if not for avenatti?
07-06-2018 , 03:51 PM
+1

He should run as a republican though.
