I'm trying to find a way out of this, but everything is pointing towards GAME OVER.

I’ve tried not to be fatalistic since the election but this is the simple truth; it’s over. America as we liked to envision it is likely gone and not coming back, at least not on the near future. Donald Trump has exposed the rotting core of our society and allowed it to fester - we are now the country that detains desperate immigrants indefinitely and refuses to take in refugees fleeing war torn countries while bombing random poorer in the Middle East. We are the baddies.

Republicans played the long game, they cheated and caught a few “lucky” breaks, and they won. Plain and simple; they stole a Supreme Court seat and now they are packing the judiciary to turn this country into a paradise for people who like to pollute and exploit workers. They were able to undo all of Obama’s work in less than 2 years and now it will change the tide of the United States for at least the next 20 if not longer.

If the midterms and 2020 elections go incredibly well for Democrats, maybe there’s a glimmer of hope but honestly, I’m making plans to leave and I think others who are in a position to do so and value things like rights for minorities and workers to do the same. Things probably won’t look so bad (i mean other than the concentration camps) immediately and it’s easy to get complacent but they will just continue to get worse and before you know it you are just living in the Third Reich part 2.

I thought post-Brexit UK would be better than Trump's America but I didn't think it would be this much better. I mean the country could fall off the Brexit cliff and be better than Trump's America.

His dissent on the recent privacy ruling was actually more extreme and more protective of privacy than the affirmative judges. Outside of that I got nothing.

I agree with all of those things but he has a massive inferiority complex when it comes to Bernie Sanders. What sanders said yesterday was simply dumb and put him in the company of ruling class elites. It is not defensible.

I sometimes poke fun at Sanders because I know it trips up Micro but this was not one of those cases. I am a Micro fan, he just has to lower the deity worship of Sanders.

Leave if you think it's best for you, but bolded is 180 degrees wrong.

EDIT: Guess laws have updates wrt Italian citizenship and if the government doesn't grant or reject your application within 2 years, you get citizenship granted by default.
It took me a couple of years. I basically did the following:

My birth certificate, mom's birth certificate, mom's marriage certificate, grandma's birth certificate, grandma's marriage certificate, great grand fathers US citizenship papers (where he renounced Italian citizenship after my grandma was already born), great grand fathers marriage certificate

this was all done by me way back in 2009.

but these certificates all need to be certified and translated into italian and that takes like a year. then you get on waiting list for a meeting at the Italian embassy which takes a year. Then you wait a year for the result.

But now i have Italian citizenship by blood right as if I never lost it.

I'll get over it though. I like you almost all the time now.
Feeling is mutual. I like you even though we don’t always agree. Although truth be told I think we mostly agree on goals and objectives and our main disagreements have more to do with how we get there.

I admit I used to tweak you a bit on Bernie but I think I retired that Schtick. My comments on Bernie yesterday were 100% based on his comments which agitated me because he was towing the same line of the bi partisan ruling class trying to insulate themselves from public backlash.

I willingly admit Bernie is more willing them most to go out in public and mix it up and take the good with the bad. That is why I found is comments on this topic disappointing.

Nobody else has helped me appreciate Sanders more than I used to than you. I still don’t want him as president but I do think he is a crucial figure to the current war.

Even if he strongly believed in what he said, I think he should have kept those comments to themselves. Liberals and democrats pushing this civility bubble are doing real harm and I wish they all would stop.

Btw good chance I might be leaving Texas to move back to SoCal in the next year.

Yeah I do not get this. I guess it all goes back to him filing for re-election a week after taking office. It certainly seems like it should be crossing some lines.

It is most definitely not in the best interest of the country and he forgoes trips to all sorts of places to instead meet with dictators, golf and hold rallies.

Originally he said he didn’t release them because it would be relatively easy to identify who the leaker was and they would face civil court consequences.

At this point though it is all hot air. Those tapes will accomplish nothing now as the country slides into ruins. It might have had an impact in October 2016 but now Arnold is just being an annoying whore.

This resistance thing isn't gonna work out if the leaders are tom arnold a porn star and Maxine Waters. Maxine is tougher than any of those republicans but yikes.

I am not a Waters fan, but I do appreciate the irony of younger white people bashing a 79 year old black woman who is pushing an agenda to refuse restaurant service. Obviously Maxine experienced denial of service in all sorts of establishments growing up.

I concur though that these are not the type of people to cause the change we need.

If the dems don't win at least the house in this years election and start to really push back against Trump then it's going to be looking grim. But I wouldn't start writing the obituary for the US quite yet.

Kind of like how electing a black man as president caused the backlash that elected Trump, will there be an anti-Trump backlash of liberalism and decency?

There could be an uptick but it won't be as large as the one that got Trump in. Not enough millennials vote.

Thanks and I'm close to agreeing with everything you said. I wanted him for potus given the choices and think it would be great if he does become potus, but he's probably not the best choice in the world. His best attribute is that he's inspirational in the right direction, and I don't mean big nanny-state liberal government as much as just a cultural shift away from such ruthless egoism, lack of compassion and cynical indifference. Imho, if things get better he will have been an important part of why even if he disappears now. So, more "crucial figure" like you say than he absolutely has to be the guy in the White House.

Cool. I'd be happy to meet. That goes for any of the regs really. I've met probably 40 people from 2p2 in person, but no one through politics (some people I've met from other subforums also post here).

I thought so too but historically I can't think of an example where people staying and resisting did anything to stop dictators. We're nowhere near there yet but if that's the path we're headed down, it's probably a good idea to boogie.

Uhhhhhh is he talking about WikiLeaks?

WikiLeaks publishes identities and information about ICE employees amid intensifying anger

Didn't he get up on a stage and say "I love WikiLeaks" and now they're "Leftwing Activists"?
