Probably a dumb question, but IANAL: if the payment to Daniels is an illegal campaign contribution does that invalidate the NDA? I mean, yes she agreed to be quiet for money, but how can she be legally required to abide by a contract if she is in a way participating in a crime by accepting the money? Or is breaking campaign laws one of those crimes that doesn't really count?

NRA lawyer said to have had concerns about group’s ties to Russia

Quote:
WASHINGTON - Congressional investigators have learned that a longtime attorney for the National Rifle Association expressed concerns about the group’s ties to Russia and possible involvement in channeling Russian money into the 2016 elections to help Donald Trump, two sources familiar with the matter say.

Cleta Mitchell, a former NRA board member who has done legal work for the organization, is on a newly disclosed list of people whom Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee are seeking to interview. Democratic investigators for that committee’s Senate counterpart also are interested in what she may know about relationships between the NRA or its allies and wealthy Russians, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
I was aware this was speculated for about 7 or 8 months, maybe longer. What I didn't know was the House Intel Democrats were being blocked on it by GOP committee counterparts.

How many other things have Rs been blocking in the 3 Congressional investigations?

I think you mean illegal campaign expenditure, not contribution.

Yes, if the NDA said "here's some campaign money if you don't say anything that harms the campaign" (which it appears was the intent, the issue is whether the $130k came from the campaign). If so, then it's unenforceable for illegality (assuming that doesn't comply with campaign finance law) and the entire contract is void ab initio.

The Mitchell lady denies having concerns about the NRA, but there's a lot of smoke. Wierd that some Russian dude would donate millions to the NRA, because he apparently loves guns in America and conservative politicians, and that they would turn around and throw like $70M at Trump.

Trump wasn't that likely to win, and there has to be better ways to spend that kind of money unless it was more or less earmarked for the Trump campaign. And just how did the NRA morph from a pro-gun organization to a full-on culture war organization with a RWNJ as their main spokesperson? Like not everyone who likes guns is hardcore conservative, and their stridency turns a lot of people off (as reflected in national polls) and definitely creates a potential for backlash. Seems like they're playing a short game when their goals are presumably long term.

The NRA has been that for a few decades now. Just look back to the days when charlton heston was their front man.

No but see if you fire them before they know anything then there is nothing they can leak.

Although I've heard rumors that Donald likes leaks.

Stormy Daniel's Lawyer Alleges That Stormy Was "Physically" Threatened

We may have to start a "Stormy Daniels Versus Donald Trump" thread. Stephanie Clifford's lawyer, appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program, stated that his client was "physically threatened" or "threatened with physical harm" if she talked. Attorney Michael Avanetti was not specific as to just who threatened his client, but he was very clear in stating that his client was threatened possibly by Donald Trump himself - or someone who works for (or represents) Mr. Trump. Mr. Avenatti would not say exactly what the threat was, but he was adamant in alleging that his client was physically threatened. Mr. Avenatti went on to "tease" that all this would come out during Ms. Clifford's tentative March 25 "60 Minutes" interview.

Sounds like this situation is about to get much more interesting ...

Update: MSNBC is replaying the full interview right now.

Lol Hannity last night. I don't always watch Hannity, but when I do, he's talking about Hillary's emails.

It shows why the whole right screaming fake news works so well. Ppl are just awful at parsing news and news providers for truth. Ppl like LandO just think on the first level of lol tabloid ergo fake.

However anyone that is able to apply some critical thinking would understand why that article had credibility.

Guess what's also on when you're not watching?

EDIT: Okay, not Hillary's emails every day, but Hillary's something or other. Collusion with Russia, emoluments violations with other countries, family corruption, withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, mishandling Puerto Rico...

Whew! Imagine if we got stuck with HER as POTUS? All the scandals...

My understanding of the law (could be different in the US) is that if it can be reasonably proven that a divorce was done for the purpose of protecting assets then those assets could still be seized.
03-16-2018 , 09:29 AM
Seems like it would be hard to prove that the divorce wasn't done for legitimate reasons, given that Jr is a slimeball who's been creeping out on other women on Twitter.
