He was a big fan of the tax overhaul and has been crooning about it for weeks. Now he’s absolutely losing his mind over the tariff thing and I want to rub it in so bad.

Hey media, do your job?

"Mr. President, if your own words, what is a trade deficit and why is it bad?" Repeat until answered.

Saw some steel ad on CNN they think may have grabbed Trump's attention, did it play on Fox and Friends?

Steel companies and unions playing ads on Fox and Friends to grab Trump's attention. Think the advisors need to start playing 30 second video ads with American flags waving to get his attention.

Interesting time for action. Trump feels the noose tightening
03-03-2018 , 04:47 PM
It's possible Trump thought a steel tariff would somehow undermine the Steele dossier.

actually that makes sense

Iirc it aired on fox and friends about 30 minutes prior to the first tweet the other day.

Here are a couple interesting consequences:

For cars the EU has a 10% tariff for those from the US and the US has a 2.5% tariff on the other way around.

As always. Great Planet Money podcast
On this last year.

I wonder if the guy whose name starts with an "H" that Trump most likes to sometimes emulate is not Hitler but rather Hoffa.

All of this trade war talk is happening because Trump is upset about unrelated things

Quote:
A trifecta of events had set him off in a way that two officials said they had not seen before: Hope Hicks' testimony to lawmakers investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, conduct by his embattled attorney general and the treatment of his son-in-law by his chief of staff.

Trump, the two officials said, was angry and gunning for a fight, and he chose a trade war, spurred on by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, the White House director for trade — and against longstanding advice from his economic chair Gary Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

Does a trade war harm Russia as much as it harms EU, China, US and others?

It doesn’t make sense to do a trade war; I’m wondering if it’s trump’s stupidity or it’s a directive from Putin in order to further destabilize the global economy and Russia’s enemies so they can try to move up the ladder in global power

US trade wars with the EU, Japan, and China probably help Russia.

The latest WaPo "**** is out of control in the White House" piece, sourced from 22! people, is pure madness.

What really jumps out at me reading these articles is how miserable the guy is.

Also, lol getting trolled by Jefferson Beauregard:

For instance, aides said, Trump seethed with anger last Wednesday night over cable news coverage of a photo, obtained by Axios, showing Sessions at dinner with Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, who oversees the Russia investigation, and another top Justice Department prosecutor. The outing was described in news reports as amounting to an act of solidarity after Trump had attacked Sessions in a tweet that morning.

Russia's economy is already FUBAR so I'm not sure it matters much, but the key win for them is that it weakens the alliance between the US and the EU.

Can the president unilaterally impose tariffs? I feel like I knew this at one point.

Since Trump entered presidential politics three years ago, Hicks has been his stabilizing constant, tending his moods and whims in addition to managing his image.
and she's done a fantastic job, seriously the best people.

it's a shame things are imploding because trump was on a great run there for a while.. brushing his teeth and tying his own shoes most days

Earlier in the week, Cohn was telling people he was going to continue stalling Trump on tariffs. He described the tariffs as “obviously stupid,” in the recollection of one person who spoke to him.

“Gary said to him, you can’t do this, you can’t do that,” a senior administration official said. “The more you tell him that, the more he is going to do what he wants to do.”
