The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Is the president reaching some kind of psychological breaking point? That is difficult to diagnose from afar. More likely, Trump is exhibiting a set of compulsions and delusions that have characterized his entire adult life. You can’t have declining judgment that never existed. You can’t lose a grasp on reality you never possessed. What is most striking is not Trump’s disintegration but his utter consistency.

He is his base.

Did this happen with Obama though? I doubt he'd be dumb enough to put himself in a situation where thousands of his supporters were stuck in the rain due to him.

I'm guessing Obama would have planned things much better which would have prevented this or not gone at all.

If Mueller gets trump to do an interview, can trump just repeatedly plead the fifth?

Yes.

He won't.

Maddow says dems considering reading Fusion GPS transcripts into congressional record like the Pentagon Papers in the 70s.

Sadly I think today's dems are too cowardly for a move like this.

Oh I have no idea. I just assume logistics and planning for stuff like this is left up to the Secret Service.

But yea, Obama probably would have gotten there at 3 and met with both teams and wished them luck.

To use legislative privilege to get around classification?
01-08-2018 , 11:31 PM
WTF, presidents show up at sportsball games all the time. This is the first I've heard of having to delay the game for an hour just because POTUS wants to swing by.

It's not a classification issue I don't think. It's that republicans control the committee and out vote dems. Dems want them out but Republicans don't. Geez I wonder why.

Deplorables (or perhaps thousands of russian impersonators) have started throwing Oprah under the bus, posting pictures of Oprah and Harvey Weinstein, etc, so I found this tweet a bit curious:

Maybe she really is as dumb as depicted by Wolff and is missing the blindingly obvious subtext of Oprah's speech.

but also within the past hour:

hmmm

I've been desperately trying to find a redeemable quality in Ivanka

It's not possible, she is a horrible human being

She's attractive in the superficial way people with a lot of money often are because they can afford the talented stylists who make them look that way.

Maybe this is her triangulating to look bipartisan for her 2024 run

All of them except Hunter (who is in a highly red district but under investigation by the FBI for misuse of campaign funds) are going to have a real tough time winning re-election.
Rohrbacher is my district and he’s supposedly vulnerable, but I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m going to be extremely active in the election

Ivanka as the Democratic nominee isn't the craziest thing I've heard all week.

I'd argue that she's more dangerous than Donald because she has the appearance of being reasonable while simultaneously being as deplorable as her father. Like the Marine Le Pen to Jean-Marie Le Pen.

Pretty much. It'll work under the right circumstances. She'll run and win in 2024 if a weak Democrat wins in 2020. If Trump wins in 2020, then another Trump is a lock to take 2024 if Donald can't destroy the Constitution enough to try for a third term.

I’m very curious to see the strategy Dems have for when the repubs suddenly come out in favor of bipartisanship now they’ve got their crippling tax scam passed. This Ivanka move signals that bipartisanship may actually be where the Rs are going in an attempt to gain favor with the public after looting the country for a year and trying to take health care from poors.

What is the Dem play there? Play nice and point out how governing actually happens when Dems get a say? Go full on 1998-2000 Repub and block all the things to prevent your enemy from having something he can run on? Something else? Tie every back to repealing the tax scam?
