The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

Most illiterate, poorly educated, poorly read and below average writer whitehouse ever?

Quote:
The ruling from Judge James L. Robart was broader than similar ones before it, and it prompted officials to immediately communicate with airlines. At the same time, though, the White House said in a statement the Justice Department would “at the earliest possible time” file for an emergency stay of the “outrageous” ruling from the judge. Minutes later, it issued a similar statement removing the word “outrageous.”

I would because I have a weird view of Supreme Court justices and think Trump is such a menace that even if an activist hard line right wing judge got appointed it would be worth it.

It's an interesting question though as the sc nominee is really the only lasting decision from trump's clown show.

As to my weird thoughts on Supreme Court justices I think the reality of the position can absolutely change a person. Not their idealogy but how they see problems and how they want to protect the constitution. So I feel like there is always a less than zero chance that a Supreme Court justices will leave partisan politics behind and govern differently because the unique protections Supreme Court justices have.

That being said we have had plenty of political partisan judges since and some who are just flacks. Others might lean one way or the other but do so with earnest conviction.

Since it's replacing scalias seat I would accept judge Jeannie Pierro on scouts if trump went away.

Yeah zero point to confront him.

Plus not all trump voters are dumb. Some are just ignorant single issue voters who will all say wtf in 4 years.

A draft executive order would make an immigrant able to be deportable if they receive government assistance.

Quote:
But as it is currently written, the draft order instructs the departments of State and Homeland Security to overhaul their definition of a “public charge” -- a person who is likely to become dependent on government help after immigrating. It would also make immigrants who use public benefits “for which eligibility or amount is determined in any way on the basis of income” subject to possible deportation.

Under long-standing policy, the government has not considered receipt of nutrition, medical or housing benefits when evaluating if someone has become a public charge for deportation purposes. While the federal government has prohibited even legal immigrants from accessing many of these programs as soon as they arrive in the United States, some states allow access if they have children under 18 years old. And some federal benefits, such as WIC, the school lunch program and emergency Medicaid, are not restricted. Practically speaking, almost no one is deported for receiving such benefits unless there’s evidence they deceived the government at the time they immigrated.

The executive order could hypothetically change that, barring potential immigrants who may need nutrition assistance and making the*use of these programs a deportable offense. Advocates say that will cut the number of people who apply for SNAP, WIC and reduced-price school lunch, even when they, or their children, are legally eligible for them.

Will they get their taxes refunded before being deported?

This bookstore employee deserves a raise.

Someone really needs to explain to me how these judges have a right to do this. Immigration is not a right. Why are we letting judges decide we cannot shut off immigration if we so please? All that is going to end up happening now is the Trump administration is going to suspend immigration from all countries. Thats going to end up being the final step in this.

I hadn't thought of that

He withdrew because he couldn't meet the Pentagon's conflict of interest rules. Oh I love the smell of irony in the morning.

There are legislative limits to the presidents power to regulate immigration. The immigration and naturalization act says POTUS can't discriminate based on religion and nationality.

So basically if he just goes and adds a whole bunch of non Muslim countries to the list they cannot do anything? And or he adds every country in the world which is what I said he'd do in the initial post.

JFC, well there goes the argument that the airport chaos was unintentional confusion. What a bunch of malignant mother****ers.

If he just shut the gate on everybody? I'm not sure an American court could stop him.

Its ultimately going to take one of these idiots having someone in their family killed by a terrorist from one of these countries who they let in to wake up and finally come to their senses.

What do you think the chance of that happening is? Rough estimate is fine.

You know how many businesses would oppose that? Say goodbye to any funding by the private sector.

Right, I knew you gave exactly zero ****s about your "omg judges can't enforce the law, it will just make trump do something more drastic like ban the whole world." Zero, that is all you need to know, exactly zero attacks against the US mainland by people from the banned countries. Even knowing that you are shaking with debilitating fear at the thought of these scary brown people entering the country. Piss off

Good Fresh Air interview exploring the depth of Bannon's right wing views and associations. This guy is a movie villain.

It looks like Trump basically sold policy to the Christian right in exchange for their support and, ultimately, his election. They were finally on the ropes and remain a declining force in terms of numbers and support, but they're running things now.

Everyone already knows the answer to any question that has the form of "would Trump do X to get a win...?"

Question : Can't just Trump change the law that prohibits banning nationality or religion ?
02-04-2017 , 01:30 AM
That wouldn't pass a filibuster, then there would still be a constitutional challenge. The first amendment doesn't allow the government to pick and choose their preferred religion, even wrt immigrants.

I feel terrible for thinking the same thing. LOL.

Like, in some ways, I want to see how far Trump can go down the rabbit hole before the GOP is like "HEY WAIT A MINUTE! THIS ISN'T RIGHT!" and act all righteous.

Will it be Fascism? Will it be Muslim interment camps? KKK groups commit hate crimes and not get charged? The Dow Jones crashing to 5,000? Tune in at 8 PM for the latest!
