LOL I did that for all of my adult life. It's different now that he's in his 80s and starting to slide, both mentally and physically. Why do I want to upset him now? He's not changing his views now.

You have to treat you own dad with respect of course, but can you at least talk through what it would mean and that some parts of the media make mistakes? Does he think the same about the women's protest thing around the country (with millions there)? How much would you have to pay (baring in mind time + travel) ... $100? Millions x $100 is a lot. And how many would you have to ask to get that many....and surely 10% or so would blow the scam, meaning loads and loads of evidence.

My dad has visited America a fair few times (mostly Florida but not only there). He's semi retired now and pretty well off so goes on loads of holidays. He's closed the door on the USA though as he can't face the thought that ~ 50% of the people there are Trump voters.

He has told me stories over the last few years where he'll be on a cruise ship (he spends a lot on holidays, these are expensive trips) and gets talking to American people....all very friendly, well off (by the fact that they are there), and all is going well then they turn to him and say something like "You know that Obama is a Muslim don't you?". He swears that this has happened so often he specifically looks for trips where there are likely to be few Americans. I'd always laughed before, but it does show how deep the support for someone like Trump is.

I've wondered before about this claim that Iran is one of the biggest state sponsors of terrorism. It's a claim I've seen made frequently before, invariably, as here, without any evidence attached. I assume, like microbet said, that they're talking about Hezbollah and Hamas. The vast majority of what most Westerners would think about as "terrorism", i.e. attacks in Western countries, is carried out by Sunnis. Iran is Shia.

The lumping together of completely different phenomena as "terrorism" precludes discussion of which of these phenomena the US should care about.

Edit: I would also not be surprised if a blind eye is turned to the terrorism-sponsoring activities of US allies like the Saudis. IOW, this "biggest state sponsor of terrorism" is pretty transparently related to US strategic aims in the Middle East as opposed to what most people would think of as terrorism.

As a Las Vegas resident, I'm becoming worried that Trump is going to hurt America's tourist industry. What percentage of international travelers that would normally come to the country deciding to go somewhere else would have a noticeable effect? I'm guessing many of the small towns in the Southwest probably depend on Europeans that like to explore the desert landscape.
