The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

In normal times auto-impeach. Today, lots of deeply troubled senators.

This unfortunately looks like a huge nothingburger, certainly nothing new. Also we are now a year into the Russia investigation with no concrete evidence implicating Trump himself colluding with Russia. With the insane amount of leakage coming out of DC these days if there was concrete evidence I am certain we would have heard about it by now. I hate to say it but I don't see anything coming from all this, other than halting his agenda which in and of itself is a massive victory I guess.

Ditto.

Seems like a massive waste of time but I could be wrong.

That Eric Trump charity scam is probably a better story.

It also wastes political capital in a way because if this all turns into nothing then it fits the right wing derposphere narrative of FAKE NEWS. That is the risk you run.

Jesus people, stop falling for the normalization! You're letting the GOP win with messaging AGAIN.

What he admits is worse than Nixon! I mean yes, placeholder shame on the media here, obviously. But please don't buy into "welp, no hooker piss video, guess they've got nothing!"

This is how horribly Democrats fail at playing the game. Republicans had actual legitimate media "covering" Benghazi as an actual scandal. The same media now seems to be on board with "no piss tape, move along" and that's accepted?

The **** people?

Trump is at 34% approval according to Quinnipiac. I think he's almost down to the deplorables only at this point.

democrats don't have a major media outlet outside of the neocons (bombs yay!). MSNBC is bush republicans now.

Senate Republicans have to love trump though, they're busy KO'ing obamacare and nobody's noticing.

So Fox and the concern trolls have declared Trump innocent, I think we can move on now.

Comey's prepared testimony seems VERY consistent with earlier news reports. I don't see that it changes the discussion much, other than to confirm the accuracy of those reports.

FWIW, I suspect that Comey's is 100% telling the truth about his interactions with Trump.

Upon reflection, it was pretty slick of Comey to release that statement today. It lets him sidestep Trump declaring exec privilege at the last minute

No it isn't. At least not if we are talking about the Russia story. You have lost your mind. Yes Trump is a horrible president, a scumbag and a criminal but continuing to hammer this Russia narrative is a huge loser long term. There are other ways to take him down and this is clearly not going to be it.

Exactly this. This changes nothing. Those of you waiting around with baited breath for weeks for this are going to be very disappointed.

People are weird. Early leaks of Comey memos were "huge if true, we need to see if Comey confirms on the record!" It takes a couple of weeks for Comey to confirm, and now people are like, old news, nothing new here, yawn.

Maybe Trump does really know how to manipulate idiots, he admitted firing Comey to stop the Russia investigation and people are like, well he wouldn't admit it if it was wrong so guess its okay.....

I'm not sure that these remarks do for the case against Trump, but they're really a landmark in the history of English prose.

Just this week concrete proof was leaked by Winner showing that Russia hacked election sites with the intent of skewing results; it also happened to be in the swing states.

Then she was arrested immediately. Its a true story.

The fact that this is confirmed + the dozens of other pieces of information lying around = Trump is guilty

With apologies in advance to Riverman, I doubt this will be enough to complete the circle on obstruction of justice. Trump will offer some minor disagreements with Comey about the specific words he used, but more than that, he will say that Comey misinterpreted his comments.

By itself probably not. There's more evidence than just what Comey wrote in that memo, though.

Like, what would an affirmative defense even look like here? "I made everyone leave the room because I really wanted to just be alone with James for a bit, I demanded loyalty because people always try to cheat me at golf, and my comments to Lester Holt were an inside joke and he knows it?"

Yeah but 30 mins after that he'll tweet something confirming Comey's interpretation was correct.
