I'm still not sure what Mueller is claiming is wrong about the report. The response was legalese carefully worded. Trump fans ofc are all THE ENTIRE THING IS WRONG AND EVERYTHING THEY"VE SAID IN THEIR LIVES IS WRONG. Compare that with oh say a pathological liar who lies about every god damn thing ever even when it doesn't matter.

Still Buzzfeed broke the dossier, NYT/CNN/FOX/etc were all NOTHING TO SEE HERE, Buzzfeed broke the moscow story (that one they're not even bothering to defend).

My guess is Trump basically said it but in the way a mafia guy says it so it's not direct enough to actually get convicted of it which is why Mueller felt to immediately come out, otherwise there were gonna be a bunch of house investigations getting in the way.

This ofc requires some trust in Mueller and he's a career republican who's great friends with other career republicans like Barr about to be AG so yeah...

If the Buzzfeed report isn't true, they've still done more work on this than everybody else has basically combined. Journalism is sad.

I think either the truth is somewhere in the middle or Buzzfeed got seriously burned by their sources. For them to continue to stand by their reporting at this point is just so stupid and self-destructive if they don't have a very good reason to do so.

The WaPo story went into detail on this - it is also anonymously sourced, but it seems like their sources are the Mueller team, and the WaPo story basically says the reason the Mueller team went on the record to dispute it is because Michael Cohen did not tell them Donald Trump directed him to lie:

Second bolded is basically the most explosive claim in the Buzzfeed story, and the special counsel's office is saying "no, that didn't happen". Mueller burning Buzzfeed for the sake of keeping up some strategic facade of "oh no, don't worry Trump, no bombshells about to drop on you from this direction" seems extremely unlikely.

It's going to be something like: whatever Trump said to Cohen, the special counsel's office does not think that it rose to the level of "instructing him to lie" or whatever the legal requirement for suborning perjury is, but BuzzFeed are comfortable with saying that it was instructing him to lie.

Like if Trump said "don't tell them we're still discussing the tower" is that instructing him to lie? Legally perhaps not? He can always claim he meant "well unless they ask, obviously, I mean you can't perjure yourself, I just meant don't bring it up". Instructing him to lie would be "tell them we concluded the tower discussions". BuzzFeed might characterise either as instruction to lie though. IANAL and have no idea if that makes sense legally, it's just an example of the sort of thing that might be going on.

James Woods is far worse than that, he's an alt right conspiracy pusher who tries to date teenagers, he's 71. Seems to work for him though, guess it only takes a few in the numbers game.

I think some of it is him simply pushing it to keep his name known to people but yeah he probably believes a lot of it too.
