No, just saying that Coons is terrible from my point of view. Again we'll see what he does if he's elected. We'll see how often he tows the party line, what he does in committee and what legislation he initiates. Kool?

Post Your 2010 Ballot

I just voted for the first time in my life. It took about thirty minutes, including the time it took to search the internet for the nearest polling place and drive there/back. It felt good.
10-28-2010 , 08:31 PM
The Teamsters just sent me my ballot card of who to vote for! I can't tell you guys who they picked because you're not in the brotherhood. Sorry.
10-28-2010 , 08:46 PM
man i really should vote. The polling place is literally on the way from my apartment to my car.

I really don't care though.
10-28-2010 , 09:26 PM
I'm noticing a trend. It's like the more people learn/talk about politics, the less they give a **** about actually voting.
10-28-2010 , 09:55 PM
My mind is still blown that some of the smarter people on this site are voting for people like Angle and O'Donnell.

I totally understand not liking Harry Reid, but to support Sharron Angle to me is just mind blowing.

Anyways...

For the main races I will be voting for...

Cuomo (GOV)
Schumer (SEN)
Gillibrand (SEN)
Schneiderman (AG)
Bishop (NY1)

The only main race that I am torn on is for Comptroller. DiNapoli seems pretty useless, but I don't care for Wilson much either. I'll probably decide in the booth.

10-28-2010 , 11:06 PM

10-28-2010 , 11:08 PM

If you vote for the candidate you hope will use the system we have as effectively as possible, yeah. But, and this is just my suspicion for some here, if you vote to hasten the demise of the state system, these moron candidates are just the sort of primates one could point at to indicate the stupidity of the system as a whole. If you fill the government with simpletons it really makes it seem like the idea of government was bad to begin with (Plus it gets them out of the nepotic obligations in the private sector). It's unfortunately fair to say that even the "adequate" candidates haven't been very much better, but I see work and opportunity where others see waste and futility.
10-28-2010 , 11:13 PM
I voted democrat straight down the line except for Annabeth Surbaugh for Johnson County Commissioner.
I made sure to vote for a proposition that would eliminate mental illness as a disqualification for voting in Kansas since I like voting and all.
10-28-2010 , 11:16 PM
Ugh, We're All Fu****.

So I voted for brown, boxer, and the all democrats in part-affiliated races exec
T for the local house seat, where the democratic nominee is a multiple time loser and so I voted for the libertarian. I voted yes on 19, no on 20 and 27 (zomg!), yes on the initiative to add an $18 vehicle reg surcharge with the money going to state parks, yes on letting the budget be passed by majority, no on all other initiatives.
10-29-2010 , 03:37 AM
Alright I would be delighted, especially since you requested it so politely.

To me the modern day republican party has completely jumped the rail. I did not vote from 2000 to 2006 btw and knew basically nothing about politics at that point. I caught bits and pieces of the news but that was about it I spent most of my time drugged out or at work (or both!)

But I started paying attention in time to catch the run up to the 08 elections. Partly because they took my local sports radio station off the air, so I got sick of the cds in my car and started listening to our local republican am - hiding under the moniker of news.

So after listening to that stuff for a few months I was done with them. I should preface by saying I was exactly like most of u back then I was like who gives a bleep about voting were all effed etc. However hearing the policies promoted by rush hannity Laura ingraham Michael reagen and others I was very very motivated.

You see I disagreed with nearly every policy they promoted. I didn't believe abortion should be illegal nor do I consider it immoral rather I consider it the same as me jackin it and throwing away the napkin.

Which leads me to our next ideological gap.

Continued from previous post - I'm blasting this out on my phone and didn't want to lose it.

I am an atheist. Have been always will be. I view Christianity the same as voodoo as hinduism its all the same to me I think its ridiculous to believe in some magic force and attribute decisions in real life to it.

The republicans I heard based all their policies on it - everything. I could never support a party who's primary pillars is we believe in magic sky wizard that's why we can tell women what to do with their innards!

Basically I'm opposed to the republican agenda I was motivated to vote for obama in 08 I'm looking forward to voting for every democrat I can in the meantime. I was worried about republicans ruining our prosperity now I'm worried about them ruining our country .

The new tea party phenomenon is a bastard child of ignorance and pent up racism how else can u explain their horrific posters and lies about president obama. They just assume taxes have gone up - assume hcr will kill their grandparents. They can just be fed misinformation and can be dangerously programmed by people who would twist their ignorance to their own ends. I assume I must sound like a daily kos flaiming lib so I'm gonna read this over and continue.
10-29-2010 , 03:58 AM
Ok not awful. Seriously these tea party people TERRIFY me they are completely uninformed they think we can just cut welfare cut foreign aide and be good no more debt no more deficit. MORONS they don't realize you can't fix the problems without attacking the problems medicare SS and the military. I realize two out of three of those are democrat inventions from our past but I wasn't alive for that I can only deal with now.

Now I feel that the repub tea party is the worst choice for our country. I don't particularly like the democrats uniformly but I agree with them on much more than ill ever agree with the repub tea party. I feel that if we elect a tea party repub president with tp majorities in both houses kiss America goodbye we won't recognize it in twenty years it will be like Nazi germany by then. And yes I truly believe that I'm not just using hyperbole.

And on one final note I know a lot of acist libertarians etc on this board who are probably socially liberal support the repub tea party BC of fiscal conservatisms. While if they get to power you can kiss that part of it goodbye it will be 100 percent establishing a Christian theocracy and ramping up our military to insane levels. I hope I'm wrong about all of this
10-29-2010 , 04:09 AM
So in summary It would take a polar shift in the attitude of the republican tea party for me to even think about voting for them and I look at people who say why vote with some contempt.

I feel like in twenty years a lot of people are gonna wish they voted democrat if they give the country to these maniacal religious zealots. In the meantime I look at them as useless idiots who would rather people like Sharon angle run the country then watch the news. Well you reap what you sow for a lot of these people I am ashamed I used to be like that I'm lucky I woke up when I did. Now somebody convince me I'm wrong!

Fwiw the republican I would empathize the most with is the guy dvaut mentioned in the beginning. I could at least respect a party like that (fiscally conservative socially moderate) to bad nothing close to that exists in politics at the moment

If the GOP were still the moderate party of Eisenhower & Ford (or even the dreaded Nixon), I'd probably be a Republican. It's not. It's been hijacked by religious fundamentalists on social issues and by corporate plutocrats on economics. The GOP is all about corporate welfare and forcing biblical standards of morality onto everyone now, and any politician who chooses to identify with it doesn't deserve my support.

I'm tempted to register as a Republican just so I can vote for the moderate in every primary, since I'd like the opportunity to choose between two sane parties on election day.

Boxer
Brown
Yes on 19

How are people in Cali voting on the non partisan redistricting? If it passes won't it give Republicans significantly more seats in the House out of Cali?
