According to my source in the Afghan foreign office (well, not my source, a source from my friend, who got it from someone he knows, who got it from someone they know and so on, who got it from someone in the Afghan foreign office, there is going to be a big story in Der Spiegel tomorrow about alleged American soldiers' war crimes in the country. Apparently it is going to cause a lot of friction between the US and the Karzai administration and the country in general.

No idea what the revelations are, but we'll see tomorrow morning I guess.

Don't worry. The neocon talk radio sphere has been given a new set of talking points. A-stan is now "Obama's war", and is hence an expensive, unpopular, quagmire of nation-building and dealing with a corrupt government that we can now declare victory over and free up material and troops from for our next adventures in NA/ME where al queda is old and busted and the new hotness is TEH MOOSLIM BROTHAS. Not like GWBs wars, which were definitely NOT expensive, unpopular quagmires of nation-building and dealing with corrupt governments, and to call them thus was un-American, unpatriotic, unsupportive of TEH TROOPZ, cowardly and treasonous.

But who will build the nationz?

Was meant to be in the lc thread, but never mind.

Well, you see the Iraq and Afghanistan were defensive wars to ensure that WMDs would not fall to hands of terrorists, this new one is opportunist military adventure having nothing to do with this nation security,so it is all makes sense.

Anyone itf good with electronics/power tool type stuff?

Could I use this:

to power an electric chainsaw?

Tsao I highly discourage you from using a chainsaw if you're inexperienced with power tools.
03-20-2011 , 01:21 PM
I've used this chainsaw hundreds of times, but I do appreciate your concern - its the question of amps and volts that I don't know about. I need to do some cutting thats probably around 600 feet or so from any power outlet, so I don't have extension cords that will reach.

I know there are mobile generators I could get but they're a lot more expensive than that thing, and the wood I wish to cut is right off the road, so if I could plug the above item into my car, and plug the chainsaw into it, I'd be good to go.

Ah, good luck then; sorry I can't be of any help.

It looks like it might work, the inverter has a 10A fuse and the chainsaw says it only draws 9A. I would keep the car running while using it, though, it seems like 9A could drain your battery pretty quick.
03-20-2011 , 01:39 PM
right on, but keeping the car running provides enough whatever to keep the battery charged despite that use?
03-20-2011 , 01:54 PM
If the car is running you can disconnect the battery. The alternator will be supplying electricity to the 12v outlet.
03-20-2011 , 08:34 PM
General, no way can you power the chainsaw with that thing. I bought a better one (150W) and it couldn't even handle my laptop.

pvn, the 10A fuse would have to be on the 12v side of the inverter, for a max draw of 120 watts. At the output, 100 watts max at 115v is less than 1 amp.

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense, those things inverter things are generally pretty dinky.

BTW first day of work tomorrow!!

No way that is cheaper and less risky to your car than this solution:

Finally experienced something almost as painful as arguing on this forum. On Thursday I broke my forearm making a save in soccer. Spent 7 hours in the ER on Friday getting the thing examined, X-rayed, "set", splinted, X-rayed, "set" again, plaster cast, X-rayed again. Apparently setting a fractured forearm means pulling on it really hard and then pushing on it really hard to align the bone (mine was broken all the way through, with about a quarter inch gap). The first time they did it they used no pain killers at all. That hurt more than anything I've ever been through before. Then they X-rayed it and set it wasn't set well enough so they gave me morphine and pulled it harder and pushed it harder, and that hurt just as much.

Good times all around.

Well at least you made the save. Arguing on this forum usually is a LOT let useful that that.

Jesus what the hell happened, you dive into somebodies foot? I've played GK for a long time and have never heard of something like that happening. It's always the shoulder or elbow. I'm picturing something really vicious.

I was on the golf course when a guy snapped his forearm hitting a drive one afternoon. He didn't hit it fat, and he was otherwise a pretty healthy guy, although I'll readily admit that there might have been complicating factors. An existing hairline fracture or something?

After that, not much surprises me.
