What is it that you hate about guns if you don't mind me asking? Not trying to start a flame war just curious.
My first main experience with a gun was having a pistol pointed at me in an attempted robbery and that wasn't fun at all, but even as a kid I always prefered swords and stuff to guns - guns always seemed sucky in that they create such unfair balances of power (a 5 year old could take out a team of ninjas with a good gun, for instance). Of course, this is also one of the things I really appreciate about them now. (a small woman can defend herself against a rapist etc)

Also later in life it was absolutely standard among the liberal circles I partied with to hate on guns, but I realize now that attitude was totally unrealistic. It was like we all wished that guns didn't exist and so approved of any legislation that claimed to move society in that direction.

Of course guns really do exist in large numbers (in America at least) and that's not going to change. I slowly came to accept that our society is already flooded in guns and tighter laws would only keep them out of the hands of law abiding citizens.

Now of course I'm also a big fan of an armed citizenry as a guard against government tyranny- that's probably my favorite thing about them. I still don't really "like" guns though and still get creeped out around them, though I did become an MW2 addict for awhile last year and have gotten way more comfortable with the idea of using them since then.

I probably just need to get more comfortable around them, get some training etc, and then I can officially call myself a gun fan, rather than a somewhat reluctant gun rights supporter

I'd love to shoot some more big guns but it's remarkably expensive. If I remember right it cost like 50 bucks and only lasted ~10 minutes... in a country where you can get a hotel for the night, get drunk and stoned at the bar and take a woman home for roughly the same price!

I'm asking specifically about the one at the Farmers Market this weekend.

I know both GunRunner's and Eastman have been getting restrictive about bringing guns in for trade.
I have done it before so... Yes IMO. What you got? I could be into it.

True and nice that you see both sides of it. IMO the only way to make that imbalance work is to have your own and be better with it that the other guy... ymmv

Yeah that is my impression of the anti-gun folks as well. and as I have stated ITT and others if there were a magic wand that eliminated all guns from the world I would use it. I would be giving up a major source of entertainment and self improvement but I would sacrifice that for society as a whole.

Ofc knives etc would instantly be used, and wars would go back to being fought with swords etc. Better that the wand eliminate all violence.

That is because you are shooting rental guns and range ammo. The ranges make a ton of their money on ammo markup. They require that you use theirs, now this keeps dummys from using crap ammo and screwing up their firearms but it also creates an awesome profit center. For example I can buy 1000 rounds of the ammo you shot in that AK for ~$225 and I'm betting you shot 30 rounds maybe 50.

Most people who shoot allot get a membership somewhere and know how to get better ammo prices or reload their own, this reduces the cost. Its still an expensive hobby but not like golf or sailing or something.

Hey somebody was asking about a bedside pistol storage solution (for someone that doesn't have kids) here is a molded piece of kydex that you can screw onto anything, like the side of your bed or nightstand or the wall etc etc.

like a Maddi or something? I'll keep my eye out, Iv'e been wanting a "tacticool" one lately. Maybe in 5.54 but prolly 7.62
03-18-2012 , 07:54 PM
I'm looking for one from the Cold War era with USSR markings, particularly the Arrow/Triangle from the Izhevsk factory.

Not tacticool at all. I want a Russian cold war carry gun. Wood stock beat up scratches the full deal.

I want one where the safety and mag release are broken in all the way.

I'd find this thread much more interesting if youz guyz would shoot animals once in a while and give me free venison.

Or elk. Elk is yummy. Moose is gross, though. Don't shoot moose.

With rare exception the guns owned by members of this forum are for shooting people, not animals.
03-19-2012 , 10:02 AM
Nah, my guns are for shooting targets.

Although I know how to hunt and clean my own meat I don't find it sporting or entertaining. I don't mind that people do but its not for me outside of a zombie apocalypse type scenario.

Spring cleaning the NeBlis stockpile. Just ordered 3k rounds of various ammo. Wish I coulda doubled that because I got good prices and its stuff that the wife and I will blow through quickly. 10 to 1 when I order again it will cost more.

I'm surprised there's been no mention of the George Zimmerman shooting in Florida. It's a perfect example of what a disaster liberal carry laws are.

Neighborhood watch guy Zimmerman is in a gated community and spots somebody walking he doesn't like the looks of. Calls 911 (his 47th time) and follows the individual. Then he gets out of the car and interacts with the individual. He receives a bloody nose, witnesses suggest there was some rolling around on the ground. He shoots and kills the individual with his licensed gun.

It's a 17 year old kid who was headed back to his dad's girlfriend's house after going to the store for skittles. Police do not arrest Zimmerman, because under Florida law, there is no duty to retreat from a confrontation, and being scared of the kid is sufficient reason to kill him.

I think we can guess pretty well what happened in this case. The kid did not feel like being confronted and detained by a random prick just for walking down the street, and he fought back.

Let vigilante-mentality people carry, this is what you get. Take the gun out of the situation and there's a fight at most. The problem with liberal carry laws is that the people who most want to carry are individuals who live a constant fantasy life of violence, and are waiting to reenact years of built up fantasy play.

Pretty sure this is the third our forth thread it's been mentioned in, maybe it does need it's own topic.
