So, anything important happening this month?
11-01-2016 , 09:45 AM
Are you thanking Obama for getting ready to leave because that's all he is doing these days.

Well I guess yesterday through his spokesman he made it clear he is not questioning Comey's actions, perhaps you're thanking him for that.

Call me confused.

I'd go more with ignorant than confused.

"What’s really fascinating is that there have been a number of recent studies looking at brain structural differences between liberals and conservatives," said Saltz. "And what’s been found in several studies is that liberals tend to have a larger anterior cingulate gyrus. That is an area that is responsible for taking in new information and that impact of the new information on decision making or choices. Conservatives tended on the whole to have a larger right amygdala. Amygdala being a deeper brain structure that processes more emotional information—specifically fear-based information," Saltz explained.

[..]

"Basically the study showed that if you just based it on brain structural size difference, you could predict who would be a conservative and who would be a liberal with a frequency of 71.6 percent; 71.6 percent is a pretty high ability to predict who is a conservative and who is a liberal just from brain structure," Saltz said.

That sounds scary to me.

When I get back from the park I'll make up a better clarification for my point about guns.

1) Almost assuredly don't have cancer, so that's good

2) Might have really exciting things to post this weekend

I watch baseball approximately never. Randomly tuned in for bit tonight and saw the first world series grand slam in 11 years. Gonna go buy a lottery ticket now.

Damn, Cubbies making a comeback.

They hungry enough to win?

I was only watching because of my dad who is the biggest Cleveland Indians fan in the world. It was really sad watching him watch the game.

Nate had the Cubs and Trump at approximately the same odds to win going into tonight.

This is slow torture

I was behind and for some reason checked Facebook where my Mom spoiled it for me. Hopefully she doesn't spoil the WSOP for me.

A BART janitor who put in major overtime hours earned more than $270,000 in pay and benefits last year.

"Zhang grossed $235,000 in 2015, four times more than his base pay as a janitor. Benefits brought his total cost of employment at the rail agency to more than $270,000. And records show this isn’t the first time he raked in six-figure compensation at BART. Zhang received a combined $682,000 in pay and benefits over the last three years."

counterpoint:

"But don’t blame Zhang, said BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.

He works “almost every day of the year cleaning our stations,” she said.

“He is signing up for time that is also available to others — if he doesn’t take them, someone else will. Station cleanliness is a priority for us.”"

$235k, that's like prison guard money in CA, or 8 assistant professors.

Guy probably works 80 hours a week year round (maybe more?? given that he made over 2x his base pay in OT alone), what a villain!
11-02-2016 , 01:45 PM
You can't fault the guy at all, but his managers that are paying him time and a half rather than somebody else regular pay because they let him do this should answer some questions. If for no other reason that they've set up an unsustainable system if he leaves and they can't replace him with another pathological workoholic.

i learned at my last job that it's always better to have your skilled workers pulling double-time than hire and train newbies

I mean, not for those involved at all, but like maybe for middle management or something

It's got to be something about gaming benefit formulas more than sheer number of hours worked.

Password managing software LastPass has gone totally free across all devices. Used to be a $12/year fee for using multiple device types, but no more.

If you aren't using a password manager in this day and age, you should really start. What better time than now?

The 35k in benefits ain't too shabby. This version of murica is probably better than the one where CEOs make 500x avg worker salary. Funny enough, I did a small legal job for a janitor in Oakland. The $1500 didn't seem to phase her.
