That's not what I was looking for. The above, or ban, imo.

i didnt read your post wookie. this definitely is a good thing, true. I just don't think he'll be consistant about it. "States rights as long as they are doing what im in favor of!"

I doubt Obama does anything w.r.t. Prop 8. With Prop 8 currently on the books there, Federal law is consistent w/ state law. Should prop 8 get repealed, I doubt Obama interferes much. He's on the record as saying he supports civil unions, and I suspect that his opposition to "marriage" is him not wanting to look too radical.

so i'm assuming president obama will step in and halt the federally-regulated national id cards being stiffarmed upon the states? oh wait he voted yay for the Real ID Act in 2005. Taso's right, when states rights protection faces something the democrats want, i suppose we'll hear "in the name of fighting terror" and "paramount to homeland security" etc etc

Are you saying Obama is dishonest?

Personal and political positions on an issue can differ without the holder of those positions being dishonest.

Yes, but what I quoted makes it seem like he thinks that Obama does not personally think what he says he thinks.

Not unless you read way too much into it.
02-07-2009 , 01:12 AM
lol how is that reading into it? It's pretty obvious Wookie said exactly that. I don't think there's anything wrong/unusual about a politician not being totally honest to appear more moderate. I also don't think it's a bad thing in the case of gay marriage.

How is it dishonest to separate your personal beliefs from your policymaking? If more politicians would do so, esp. with regard to religious beliefs, we'd be better off.

I do not think it is dishonest to say that you are against something on a personal level, but do not feel it is the state's responsibility to stop it/make laws against it. But if Obama personally is in favor of gay marriage, but says he is personally against it (which is how I understood Wookie's post), how is that not dishonest? He is saying he thinks something that he does not think.

if people think guys like obama got to where they are in this day and age with 100% honesty, they're naive... the rare people in politics who put principal above image and voter polls ringing in their ear have never gone far / gained much power imo

not to say all politicians are hopeless, just even the very best congressmen should still be viewed as the the best of the worst

I think no one believes that, I just wanted to hear if Wookie thinks Obama is dishonest. If we are at the point where everyone feels that Obama is basically like the rest, I have no intention to dwell on this anymore.
