Bridgegate Scandal Heats Up

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/christie-...tigation-odowd

According to the article, the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey (along with the U.S. Attorney for New York) is presenting evidence to a grand jury while simultaneously asking New Jersey lawmakers (politely) to please not get too curious - at least not until he has indicted some of Governor Christie's former aides.

Once former aides are indicted and face the actual possibility of prosecution, conviction, and possible imprisonment; that's when we'll see plea bargain deals struck and this "scandal" really taking off. This case is a repeat of Watergate, the infamous 1970's political scandal that brought down a President. Watergate played out identically. It started with Nixon - through his press secretary - declaring that the break-in was "a third rate burglary that we had nothing to do with" and ended with Nixon resigning. In this case, we have a Governor surrounded by aides who may very well have been breaking laws and the Governor claiming that he had no idea. (Sound familiar?)

Tongues didn't begin flapping in the Watergate case until the prosecutors got some convictions of lower level people and then the higher ups - fearing for their own necks - started copping plea deals. The dominoes quickly began falling.

I noticed Chris Christie giving a commencement address to a graduating class at some university where he waxed eloquently to the idealistic graduates on the virtues of "hard work" and how giving your best has a reward all its own. How touching ...

Is this "heating up" the same way all the R.Money advisors thought the race was heating up in late October 2012?

This will get interesting as soon as the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey indicts David Wildstein and Bridget Ann Kelly. In an effort to cop favorable plea deals, they'll surely implicate Bill Baroni and Stepian. Whether or not Baroni and Stepian rat out Chris Christie will depend on whether or not they can [believably] maintain plausible deniability.

Brian Burroughs writes, in the article, that Wildstein claims he has "proof" that Governor Christie knew (and implicitly approved) the bridge closure. Of course, the Governor has denied this, but if Wildstein's proof is something like an email or some type of acknowledgment of a written communication; Chris Christie's ship is sunk. OTOH, Christie is supposed to be famous for avoiding email and any type of "paper trail" that can tie him directly to criminal culpability. Having prosecuted criminals, Chris Christie is very aware of how you go about insulating yourself from legal jeopardy.

The $64,000 question is whether the indictments and the mander begins hitting the fan right around the time Christie is gearing up to run for President?

Definitely "heating up"

Can we get a title change to "LOL Jim Russell, LOL MSNBC"

Quote:
The U.S. Justice Department investigation into Gov. Chris Christie’s role in the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal has thus far uncovered no evidence indicating that he either knew in advance or directed the closure of traffic lanes on the span, federal officials tell NBC 4 New York.

I don't see what there is to LOL about, here. First of all, the investigation is far from over, and I don't recall MSNBC doing any erroneous reporting and saying that they have sources indicating that he did know (aside from Wildstein, that is).

I mean, whether or not he turns out to be guilty I don't see how anybody can look at this scandal and say that this was merely some kind of partisan witch hunt. Christie's side of the story was and still is rife with red flags. The idea that a couple of his aides could cook up this scheme on their own with his whole senior staff being aware of what was going on but not telling him (before it was even reported as a scandal) is just mindblowing if true.

So I suppose you can either believe he's a liar and a bully or an incompetent buffoon with severely impaired judgement when it comes to his own people. Either way I still think this dogs Christie as a national figure for the next year or two if nothing more comes out.

Just to be clear, you also believe he knew, there just isn't evidence at this point, right?

No.

Do you guys suddenly expect something to come out right now? It could happen obviously but odds are not good.
09-20-2014 , 10:55 AM
It's also possible that he knew/ordered the lane closures but there is no documentary evidence and nobody is going to roll over. If a bunch of computers in NJ have hard drive failures and aides start pleading the 5th I'll be more suspicious.

Obama DOJ obviously holding it for the elections.

SL,

There has been tonnes of circumstantial evidence to back up the logical conclusion Christie would have known. He just didnt run an office where something like this would have happened without his input.

Its very obvious Christie knew and probably was involved in the decision in the first place. The only question is if it can be proven.
09-20-2014 , 11:44 AM
very obvious, no evidence, lol phill

Sick burn. Oh wait, that's exactly what happened. Bridgett Kelly (his top aide who ordered the closures), David Wildstein (Christie's special personal appointee to the Port Authority who carried out the orders), David Samson (head of the Port Authority) and Bill Stepien (Christie's campaign manager) all plead the 5th when asked to testify or comply with subpoenas and hand over documents.

But.. you knew that, right? Of course you did.
09-20-2014 , 11:46 AM
I am still betting one of the aides gets immunity or at least a sweetheart deal and flips on him, its just timing at this point.
