Didn't you read his manifesto? That is exactly what he wants, wookie!

While it's true US has a long ways to go, don't forget to take a minute and think about how far we've come. I got to see my aunt marry her long-time partner today after they've been denied a marriage license for over 20 years. Hard to imagine only 10 years ago my parents were going to sign as legal custodians for their son, my cousin, since her partner wasn't a "legal" fit and now, assuming SCOTUS gets it right, it shouldn't be a problem anywhere in the country.

I think the point has been made here before, but I'm pretty sick of people lumping those born in the 80s into the "millennial" category. The people I know in their late 20s/early 30s right now bear no resemblance to those who grew up when cell phones (let alone smartphones) were in everyone's pocket.

Meh. You are all indistinguishable.

Personally, I draw the line somewhere around "people who do or don't know what a command line is"

I'm not sure why it's happening, but it does seem like the "Millenial" generation is coming up on like 40 years of birthdates. Generation X was like, what, mid 60s to late 70s? But Millenials seem to be like, anyone born 1980-present. 35 year olds are not the youth of America.

The stupid "generation naming" thing made sense when it described the Baby Boomers. But since then it's just a lazy need to label.

I predict the next generation name will have something to do with social media, and will retroactively be decided to start in 2000 or so.

Ugh yeah it bothers me that somehow a millennial. I ****ing started high school in 2000 tyvm. Just because I know how to use a computer doesn't mean that I'm somehow lazy either.

Awesome rapidly-escalating religious argument between two people on my bus. Edit: now 3 people! Apparently Oct 7th is the Rapture. Or not, depends on which crazy person you listen to.

Damn, you were playing pretty high stakes as a 21 year old.

If your formative years included the millennium, I'm pretty comfortable calling you a millennial.

And welcome to having your vague age cohort given an irritating name against your will.

I learned to program by writing a version of Frogger for the Sinclair spectrum.

At least we can all agree Boomers are the WOAT generation amirite? Given the entire world and all they do is whine and live in fear of losing their precious handouts.

In the long run, though, is that really worse than making Nash Grier a millionaire celebrity?

That's the problem, though. What are the formative years? Because it gets applied to people born in 1980 and 1998, and while I guess 2 and 20 are both "formative" in some sense, it's not really the same sense.

From reading Wikipedia, and this matches up with my own vague memories, it initially got applied to 1982-births because those people were literally the Class of 2000.

But at some point I guess the media got stuck in 1998 forever, because now "Millennial" is used as a synonym for "young person".

I'm proud to say I have no idea who that is and I refuse to google it. LALALALALALALALA!!!!

No one should be in the same generation as their 25-year-old mom. That's just common sense.

Like suzzer suggested above, I'm sure it will be retroactively narrowed in the future as people who are now on the extreme young end of the demographic get lumped into some new category based on whatever arbitrary traits seem meaningful. People born in the late 90's and beyond haven't done enough to establish their own cultural identity yet.
