Obviously these are just anecdotes, but there's a lot of red folks in that sea of blue.
I did live in TX for a long time, so I do have some basis for comparison.
This area is slightly more blue than red and it's redness has to do with money. The republicans around here are generally socially liberal. The republican ex-state assemblyman who lives in the neighborhood is pro-choice and pro-marriage equality. Very few people here consider themselves racist or would have a problem if their daughter dated a
well spoken black guy, but they're still generally afraid of black people.
