Notice how this brings things full-cycle, as pvn was "Last" in the June LC, so would he be "First" in the reopened July LC. Here's the OP...

I'm always certain I'll get Hufflepuff, but the pottermore quiz put me in Gryffindor and this one placed me solidly in Ravenclaw.

He should honor the fallen Civil War soliders by forgoing all medial treatment apart from whiskey, leaches, and hacksaw amputation.

I just had a discussion with some neighbors about a party they are planning at the beach at some fire pits and they had just come back from scoping it out. The police were pretty hysterical there and pretty much escorting white people to another section of the beach because there were too many black people in one area. There was talk of some group of Crips which I absolutely don't believe, but regardless, I guarantee that a couple of middle aged black ladies arriving there would not get a heads-up that police were concerned about possible trouble. One of the neighbor ladies who I know and like was right there saying that there didn't look to be any problem, but the other seemed pretty on board with the police and how it might not be a safe place for "Manhattan Beach Kids" (ie rich/white).

And this is totally not surprising. It's got to be at least 50% chance that a black male walking across town gets stopped by the police and a two young black people in town is guaranteed to be interpreted as a gang and terrify people. I wonder if it really is any better than in Mississippi or Alabama.

California doesn't get nearly enough credit for it's racism. I'd say 3 of the top 5 most racist people I've ever met were in CA. Two were in cardrooms, but I'm pretty sure they were locals.

Obviously these are just anecdotes, but there's a lot of red folks in that sea of blue.

I did live in TX for a long time, so I do have some basis for comparison.

This area is slightly more blue than red and it's redness has to do with money. The republicans around here are generally socially liberal. The republican ex-state assemblyman who lives in the neighborhood is pro-choice and pro-marriage equality. Very few people here consider themselves racist or would have a problem if their daughter dated a well spoken black guy, but they're still generally afraid of black people.

**** sorting hat tests. Why not take this 1960s Lousiana "literacy test" designed to disenfranchise voters? There are 30 sometimes incomprehensible questions which must be answered in 10 minutes and if you get one answer wrong, you fail. Personally, I'm a little stuck on question 1:

Quote:
1. Draw a line around the number or letter of this sentence.
Spoiler:
Am I supposed to circle the words "number" or "letter"? Do I circle the 1? The 1 isn't in the sentence.
