naw I was just reading about tether and I was like oh man that is the worst idea I've ever heard. Then I remembered that it was actually the second worst idea I've ever heard.

Kid who threatened CNN is from Novi, MI. Confirmed economic anxiety.

I worked on houses in the neighborhood of that place. Not exactly hovels but I don't remember anything like it. It was a long time ago so maybe they were levelled for the greater good of Paradise Valley.

Rand Paul's attacker getting a 21 month plea deal or something. Seems a bit hefty.

dunno, seems like there was an open and shut case for assaulting a member of congress causing personal injury, could have gotten 10 years.

Quote:
(e) Whoever assaults any person designated in subsection (a) of this section shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the assault involved the use of a dangerous weapon, or personal injury results, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

Anything less than a medal seems too harsh.

No one is getting ten years for punching someone.

Oh man, that’s super rough. Such a shame the flu vaccine this year happened to be so worthless. Tragedies like this abound.

probably not, but what would you get for punching Donald Trump and breaking his nose? o/u is probably 5 years. Low single digit years in prison seems about right for breaking a Senator's ribs.

Really? I imagine this is somewhat commonplace in any state which adopted the "Three Strikes" policy.
01-23-2018 , 02:02 PM
Which is silly. Had Rand Paul been Joe Blow the dude probably would have been sent to anger management and maybe some probation with road cleaning duties. He didn't tackle Paul for being a senator.
01-23-2018 , 02:08 PM
Assault resulting in six broken ribs seems like it could easily be a felony, senator or not. Sounds like Paul's injuries were pretty serious.

Sessions: ruh roh?

Brock Turner raped a female got out in three months. Lets not pretend our justice system has some actual logic encoded into it when it comes to carrying out the sentencing part.

It seems like our justice system does have some actual logic encoded into it? Just because there are some flaws and mistakes doesn't mean that there's no logic to it.
01-23-2018 , 02:17 PM
Did the dude tackle Paul and it happened to break 6 ribs or did he kick him a bunch when he was on the ground? I don't know about sentancing, but the latter is much worse imo.
01-23-2018 , 02:19 PM
I think it was the former, if the dude tackles a senator and kicks him while he's down and breaks six of his ribs he's getting the full ten years imo

Maybe in the books containing the laws. Not in the courtrooms.
01-23-2018 , 02:23 PM
the courtroom guys tend to base the courtroom stuff on the books containing the laws? There's whole schools devoted to this sort of thing iirc

I mean, okay maybe a black guy with priors, but most of the time, no one is getting a year in jail for punching someone over a lawn are dispute, wtf am I reading.
01-23-2018 , 02:25 PM
Right, and if this dude just punched Paul he wouldn't be getting 21 months. He broke six of his ribs though!
01-23-2018 , 02:28 PM
He hit the guy hard enough to break his ribs.
01-23-2018 , 02:29 PM
I'm very curious about how that thing escalated. Grown men fighting over lawn care seems pretty ridic. I don't know anyone who has been injured that bad in a fight at that age at all.
