I feel like I could sell that photo to Apple to use in an ad campaign, or print up big in their stores. Anyone know someone who works for them?

Agree completely with this.

The latter, obviously? I'm just explaining to you that one factor in the "supply and demand" calculus is that they are able to hire an already-experienced force. If an organization posts a position with higher pay, it will attract more qualified applicants.

Yes your attitude does change when you hit 40 and your body starts to break down here and there. Also you go from wanting to change the world to just wanting it to hold itself together for 30-40 more years (especially if you haven't brought kids into the world).

yo that's a great idea for an apple commercial (like it less as a photo for an ad). for a tv commercial, granny is sitting there opening the present "HI GRANDMA" "oh my worddd, grandson?! this is amazing, this is the best christmas ever, a christmas miracle!"

Old people like iPads as well because they're easy to use and they can expand the text as big as they want. And they can skype with their wayward son! So it would be a good angle for them.

umm no sholar. you don't know how it's (supposed) to work (like i said, county could be lying), it's not a "what's section 403 of the uniform police code of conduct", kind of test. most people get a perfect score, the people with the advantage are military vets because they get points added to their score that no one else can get. and all these 'already-experienced' cops have to go to the academy, too.

oh and also they don't accept anyone over 34 years old, so you're even more wrong.

and with regards to posting higher pay = more applicants, yes sholar, great work, i certainly didn't mention that they had 33,000 applicants last year for 200 positions due to the ridiculously high pay. wait, that's exactly what this whole discussion has been about. NO WAY.

clearly the pay is WAY TO FREAKING HIGH AND THE COUNTY IS IN THE RED BY A HUNDRED MILLION JFC SUZZER HELP ME OUT HERE
01-08-2012 , 09:57 PM
Are you disputing the statistic that 33-50% of their hires are experienced? If not, it seems that they're finding a way to make experienced hires.

I'm sure they could fill their classes even if they paid a lot less. Lots of people want to be cops. Maybe you should apply. You seem angry a lot, you like guns, and it sounds like the money is good.
01-08-2012 , 10:02 PM
sholar, if they offered $1,000,000/year, would they have more experienced hires? what about $400,000? meh, lets just make it $400,000 amirite?

do you not understand how crazy it is for 33,000 to apply for 200 jobs? (actually more like 50 jobs/year, btw.) that number is telling us that salaries can be cut and there'd still be a crazy high application rate. AND PEOPLE PAY TO APPLY, that's the best part i didn't even mention. that's 33,000 who are paying for the job. they call it a $100 lottery ticket (seriously i've heard it)

lmao @ how much you're defending $108k +benefits salaries for cops, it's awesome. pretty sure no one but cres agrees with you on this sholar.

I have the feeling that you're not reading my posts, since you're clearly not responding to them. Like I said, I'm sure Suffolk County would be able to hire enough cops even if they paid a lot less.

Sounds like that police officer exam is a good fundraiser, though.

i swear to god he just ninja edited that post and added in the part about them being hired even if they paid a lot less
01-08-2012 , 10:11 PM
btw him adding that part in is admitting any of the following:

1) i'm right (he won't say it because i'm like the only poster here who has a big enough **** to be able to admit that i'm wrong when i am)
2) he knew i was right and was just trolling

Really enjoying the "the system where.public employees unionize and extort elected officials is much better at correctly determining the true value of employee labor than anything in the private sector" narrative ITT, doubly so considering its coming from a poster who routinely lectures other posters o. Their ignorance of economics.

no pvn, he agrees that they could be paid way less, he's agreed all along we just didn't know about it.

I might have edited it in, though if I did, it was definitely before you posted. I think I only edited in the part suggesting you become a cop, but I can't remember.

They could definitely pay a lot less. They would almost certainly not attract the same caliber of applicant if they did so. I think I've been fairly consistent in making that point over the last few posts.

If I were you, Tsao, this is probably where I would start questioning your ability to understand written English. But OK, you think I'm just trolling, so it's doubtful this conversation is going to lead anywhere anyway.

And obviously I haven't been making this argument, your or other posters' ignorance of economics notwithstanding.

I wasn't talking about you, your massive ego notwithstanding
01-08-2012 , 10:37 PM
sholar, you just edited in that part about me not being able to understand written english, right?

i'm starting to question my own sanity now.

But Tsao clearly was, so I replied.

I did. Originally it was in a separate post, but I decided to tidy up the thread by combining my double post as it was within the edit window.

It's always good to question one's sanity at regular intervals, though, so I'll be sure to edit this post as well.

i like how you edit your posts and then accuse me of not really reading the thread

awesome play sholar

if you aren't an absolute idiot your next post won't be edited.

Thank you!

right sholar because i couldn't have started my reply before you edited it

Fair enough. Happy new year, I guess. And maybe start using the "Go Advanced" button to make sure nothing has changed in the earlier posts before you reply.

2) You really really need to read some history of this country. Washington lead the US Army in the field to put down an insurrection, Lincoln suspended habeas corpus, and FDR authorized INTERNMENT CAMPS. And those are like 3 of the 5 or so best Presidents we've ever had! .
Says you!
Ok back to pg 2.
