you're down by 17 not a td.

I agree with mj that this election is close. It seems a medium level event could change it entirely, and those happen fairly often. A ****ing debate moved the race immensely. (I do understand that it was easier to move toward Romney before the debate than now, but still.)

Such juvenile nonsense. no surprise to see it coming from the folks it comes from.

Like I said, Obama will probably win. Like at a probability very close to the odds you're offering. So I don't know why you're yelling "PUT UP OR SHUT UP!" at me.

What's the win probability of a team down by 17 at the end of the third. Ten percent? I'll take those odds. Hell, like I said I'll take -350

PUT UP OR SHUT UP

It wouldn't even need any sort of event. If the polls remain static till election day the NYT blogger's now cast (and projection on election day) would be like 70-30. Which was probably what Bush-Gore and Bush-Kerry both were

I think "put up or shut up" is valid in certain circumstances like when someone makes an outrageous claim (romney is crushing) but is unwilling to back that claim up a one time showing that the poster doesn't really believe in what they are saying is legitimate. I think that repeated hounding of even wild claims is inappropriate as is "put up or shut up" when someone makes a reasonable claim (I think intrade is about right, maybe off by a few % points because of X,Y and Z).

Has the word "interesting" ever been used in the first five words of a post that didn't turn out to be some conservative concern troll?

Come on fellas. It's obvious that the general gist isn't "put up or shut up". Gilute just trying to make a few dollars on the side. He's not even being pushy about it he's just being funny about it. He never said or implied once that if you don't want to bet you shouldn't be backing/arguing for Romney. He's just trying his best to get the guy to bet. lol.

Now... if anyone wants 4-1.. well, we might be able to do business. Just kidding.

+ 1 million. Also is anyone really telling anyone to "Shut up"? If I'm like "yo bet me" and the other poaster doesn't, I don't think I have any real control to make the guy shutup and at least when I say it, my intent isn't to make the guy literally shutup, it's to make them look foolish. That's that modus operandi of the forum in essence. You have to shut the place down if that kind of behavior is over the line.

Now, if the other poaster chooses to shutup, it's usually for exactly the reasons tom mentions. That's GOOD for the discussion here!

I get the epeen chest thumping stuff can get tedious but at the bottom of trying to set a price on this stuff is actually what I would HOPE smart poker players would understand is really like a critical piece of information in trying to correctly predict future events. That back and forth is integral to the process and interesting to figure out who is full of **** in what they claim and I honestly believe genuinely smart and curious people would highly value such discussions.

Yeah I think Obama is going to win too. So either offer me down by two touchdowns at the end of the third odds or stop telling me to put up or shut up.

I didn't mean it to sound as a personal attack against you, so I offer my apologies. Poorly worded now that I look back and see that of late you have been the one saying it mostly of late.

I disagree with most of your positions, but I don't think you are a bad guy so please forgive me.

Edit: I just think that in general, people use this to bully people they disagree with. I personally think Romney is going to continue to roll and pull off a victory. But I am not the type of person to bet on things like this. I don't even bet on football. I play poker and fantasy sports for money but that is about it.

Yeah I don't see the right being as butthurt about a Romney loss. The only way the right is butthurt is if the liberals also take control of congress. I don't see the Senate shifting so regardless of who controls the WH the big ticket items are going to have to be negotiated.

So Romney being blown out to a degree that it carries over to the rest of the ticket is one thing. Romney in a close race is more meh. Lets see what Obama really wants to do without having to worry about offending any of his voting blocks. While also knowing he can't pass any more stimulus, the worse he can do is insist that that the Clinton tax rates return for everyone and any spending cuts are minor. Which there is a good chance that would happen under a Reid/Romney plan anyway.

this thread got boring the last two days. All bout odds. It is a gambling website, but there are sub forums for that stuff....even an Intrade thread.

Republicans would be massively butthurt with a Romney popular vote victory and Obama EC win
10-11-2012 , 10:00 AM
Like imagine a space alien flew down and got inundated with all the terrible garbage punditry that exists on the election. Alien has to fly back to space today and won't be able to hang around to hear the results, but he wants to get back to space and report out to his alien friends how **** is going in the Presidential race and what the likely outcome is, and he wants that information as quickly as possible. As I've belabored, knowing where people are setting the price is the absolute fastest and almost surely best way to get that information. Even just the discussion of how the price is getting settled on would be really instructive.

That's why this forum has the potential to be way above average - because of that very thing, and I would hope most people posting here get that intuitively due to the game we like to play. That people want to silence that discussion gives me a sad. We should have more of it.
