Can confirm this statement is incorrect AFAIK.

It's not that we care who he's boning, it's the threat of blackmail. Anyone with a clearance gets canned for this kind of thing --it's super standard. Don't like it, then don't get a job as director of the CIA.

This is also why it was a big deal when those Secret Service guys were banging Colombian hookers.

One of the things that the Manual for Court Martial does is to expand article 134 into various "sub-articles." One of these "sub-articles" covers the offense of adultery (Article 134, paragraph 62).

Adultery, as a military offense, is difficult to prosecute (legally) for several reasons.

There are three "Elements of Proof" for the offense of Adultery in the Military:

(1) That the accused wrongfully had sexual intercourse with a certain person;
(2) That, at the time, the accused or the other person was married to someone else; and
(3) That, under the circumstances, the conduct of the accused was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces.

To be serious here for a moment, this is absolutely correct.

He isn't canned because of some arbitrary rules about infidelity and some religiously designed moral code he broke, he's canned because he's opened himself up to a situation in which he may sell out the country to protect his reputation.

Weird tho how the CIA can cover-up the OK City bombing and the JFK assassination and **** but the director can't even cover up his own personal covert infiltrations.

I was aware of the adultery stuff, just mocking the "missionary position" thing.

I think it's somewhat absurd for the large majority of troops.

I mean sure, I'd like for the DEVGRU teams to not have anything in their closet that can be used to compromise them, but some SSGT in an infantry unit? Don't really care, **** all the tranny hookers you want IMO.

i don't think you understand how the paranoid mind works.

Example:

When it's late at night and I hear a weird noise, I always assume it's crazy, violent hobos who've broken in, killed power to the house, have night vision goggles, and are ready to slit throats with piano wire as they wait behind every corner in my house.

Why do hobos waste money on piano wire and night vision goggles? I don't ****ing know. But that's where my paranoid mind goes. Every. Time.

Petraeus affair may have started in Afghanistan in which case the UCMJ would apply.

NBC News reporting that she is under investigation for potentially accessing Patraeus' email account. They don't expect criminal charges to be filed, but that explains the resignation.

Your paranoia hobos have way better tech than mine.

Mine is a zombie looking crack addict who knocked down the door and is trying to eat my cats.

I disagree. Foreign intelligence agents love to pick up small snippets of information and piece them together. Even some grunt might know **** about deployments, security, capabilities, etc. that can help paint a big picture of what's going on.

Well sure, but the effort that would be required to set a successful blackmail operation up would be far more time consuming and require far more effort than it's likely to return.

I guess in the end my objection is that I want to see this:

Quote:
(3) That, under the circumstances, the conduct of the accused was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces.
Strictly adhered to, and I want "bring discredit upon the armed forces" to have a deeper meaning than " cheating on your spouse is wrong. You've humiliated the Army!"

I mean I'm certainly all for this being used if it can be shown that this individual in any meaningful way compromised security, but I don't want it used for revenge cases, which I have seen.
