So how do you tell if it's Ebola, or if they just ate at the Circus Circus Buffet?

lol, I love how you secretly assume I'm this Obola is a Muslim destroying America conspiratard by reading my posts and jumping to an insane conclusion the same way the actual conspiratards you make fun of do.

I specified one thing they did that America didnt do. They made sure potential carriers couldnt spread Ebola further with a quarantine that just assumes people will stay at home but doesnt make sure they do.

They did several things, some appropriate to learn from, some that dont carry over due to major differences between the two countries ability to actually stop the worldwide spread of this rather than just isolate themselves and hope others sort it out.

I'll set the line at under 15 confirmed ebola cases in the US by Dec. 1st, counting the two already infected. Not counting African ebola cases who are flown in to be treated at US hospitals. Perhaps Wookie or one of the regs can act as escrow/adjudicator.

ikestoys there is actually some truth in the statement. But, we can still have a private for-profit system and a cdc. Fighting a plague is more like a war and defense according to Ayn Rand is a government role.

I'm not really into this bet. I don't want to put money on people getting sick and dying. But if I had to set a line. I would say o/u 15 new cases by Feb 1st in the U.S.

If Nassim Taleb's claim of a 20-day doubling rate is correct, there would be 73 cases by Feb 1. Remember, he got that 20-day rate from the CDC.

But anyway, what exactly is the CDC's motive for lying about ebola transmission? Like, in a few months time when we learn that they were way wrong, how they benefit from that?

Yeah but then steelhouse quoted wiki. Wiki > CDC

If we extrapolate wiki's 1.2% to be our first-world USA#1 growth rate then that's a doubling time of 58 days and there would be fewer than 7 total (5 new) cases by Feb 1.

I think the obvious motive would be to not cause a panic. They would benefit by not having caused a serious downturn in the economy when it wasn't necessary.

But I don't think they're lying. I don't think it can be spread through the air if that's what you're asking. I honestly think any conspiracy talking about population control or FEMA camps is bat**** crazy.

However, the virus does seem to be more contagious then some public officials have implied thus far but at the same time I kind of don't have a problem with them taking extra precautions.

Wild card is the nurse on the airplane. You could have zero cases by 11/5 from that or 50.

Movie sequel: Ebola-infected snakes on a plane

Two nurses who treated patient zero now have Ebola, surely they were of the danger of close interactions with the patient, followed some minimum standard of protecting themselves and still found themselves infected.

All I'm saying is that the CDC and health officials need to be more open and honest about how contagious the virus is.
The fact is most nurses suck at following what they see as secondary protocols and it didn't help that in this case they were apparently told not to bother wearing face shields. The nurses were dealing with the "explosive diarrhea" and projectile vomiting of the Ebola patient without taking the necessary precautions. Those designing the plan might have asked the question "If we don't need face sheilds for Ebola then when would we ever need them?" but they didn't.

Source? I heard this rumor 4 days ago, and then heard nothing more...

My girlfriend's ex, who she's still best friends with (yea... I know), had a 5 post ebola/Obama rant earlier today. Quality stuff.

Hard to take that post seriously.

Supposedly a letter from the head of the boyfriend's company, telling the employees he was admitted to the hospital last Sunday Oct 12th for monitoring/quarantine. No symptoms at the time according to the letter. Have heard no updates since. Someone posted a photo of the letter on Twitter.

Then what the **** is this thread for? Do you people know how many people will die from the flu, or god forbid, GUNS by December 1st?
Math is hard for leftist liberal arts majors. If there are 2 cases now and the doubling rate is every 20 days then how is a fair number 20 cases by December 1st? It's just the standard throw out a terrible, nonsensical line and then "HA, GOTCHA!"

So basically Obama has a real failure of leadership here because of two infections(neither of whom have died) and self-selected mainstream rightwingers believe we'll see single digit new infections this year. What a ****ing epidemic, INPEACH, obviously.
