China has eminent domain. At the municipal level there isn't much taxing authority so in recent years municipalities have gotten a lot of funding by condemning land -- paying well below market value -- and then selling it to developers. Which isn't really sustainable.

Most security guards I've met (I'm assuming of course that's not including high level protective agents such as Secret Service) couldn't manage to run a McRegister.

Some of the worst days of my life were days when I'd sold someone on a security plan and they wanted me to implement it and manage it and I'd be forced to place an ad in the AJC for an $8/hr guard job and spend all day talking to those who answered it.

It was truly painful. I think the average intelligence was probably higher in the drunk tank in the county lockup than in my lobby on those days.

I suspect if you know a solution to the situation in Syria there is a job waiting for you in Washington. Edit, or in New York at the UN headquarters.

This seems to be a situation where the west just has to watch and let the solution come from within the area itself, specifically from the Arab League. The rebels arent pro western like existed in Libya but you cannot back Assad for obvious reasons, meanwhile Russia is gumming up the works to finding a negotiated solution via the UNSC and the UN has sent Kofi Annan who spent half a year just trying to find a solution only to end up throwing his hands in the air screaming "**** it, you guys all suck" because neither side would give any ground to find a peaceful solution and there was no consistent unified international message or support to aid such efforts.

Basically the entire thing is a mess and no one has any clue how to end it witht he most likely solution at this point being large scale civil war and huge amount of casualties. To take a libertarian heartless position on it Assad using chemical weapons so Russia can no longer support them may be the solution with the least death and carnage right now.
