My Scottrade career was cut short when the Neteller shenanigans happened and I needed the money, but it was pretty exciting while it lasted. (These days I just do boring stuff like buy gold and invest in agriculture and ****, so I'll live vicariously through you.)

Well, it was a fairly neutral and short lived experience (the former was disappointing, the latter expected)
Given that it was neutral, I don't feel TOO stupid about it. Basically I had $510, put it on Scottrade on Tuesday, and I figured the bailout for the auto companies was coming soon, so I bought 117 GM stocks at 4.25 Tuesday, which went up to about 4.38 (I think) that day, so I was sittin' pretty with $520 in my account, lol. Next day, of course the stocks plummeted to 3.63 (zomg!) and I had around $430 (my initial investment was $497, not counting the fees, and the random $5 I had left over). But this was all pretty irrelevant to me, I was just waiting on the bailout, my only regret was that I didn't wait one more day to buy, as I'd have been able to get the 3.63 price. That night CNN told me Bush was going to announce the plan tomorrow (omg just in time, I thought), and he did this morning. Stocks quickly shot up from 3.63 to 4.38 (or so), and stayed there for like a minute, and then pretty quickly fell down to 4.08 (gg imo). I said I'd wait till the CEO gave his announcement at 11am, decided to forgo that plan when they rose back to $4.17, sold all my shares for a loss of something like $23 total.
And then right after selling they went back up to $4.30 or so, of course, lol (literally seconds after
) and then once the CEO said "Hi" they went straight back down to 4.08, and then finished for the day at $4.25 (lmao)
So, I lost $23, which is pretty much neutral for me. I'm a little disappointed as I had planned to use the money to help finance my first handgun purchase, but, I'll get it anyways in a month or so. Learned a bit, and as 13th said to me, considering I know nothing about stocks, I'm pretty lucky I only lost 20 bucks :P
