Crack Cocaine of...? (Poker, Sex, etc.) Crack Cocaine of...? (Poker, Sex, etc.)

Here's what "grind my gears": I'm watching this documentary called Cybersex Addiction on DFH on DirectTV. I have just come across someone saying that cybersex is the "crack cocaine". People probably engage in that particular activity but what really bugs me is that in the porn industry, businesses capitalize on this buy setting up websites for models over 18 years old and they perform sexual acts. The customers subscribe to the services and they "tip" or pay for the x amount of time for the model's services.

My point is that in the gambling industry especially poker, it has been called the "crack cocaine". Yet, we have B&M casinos all over the country but cannot regulate this industry over internet?! Why is it that porn sites can give out their services over the internet in the US but sites like PartyPoker gets the door slammed shut on them?

(S/N: I do not know if this is particularly the place argue this but this really "Grinds My Gears"!)

One would think that those morally opposed to Poker would also be morally opposed to pornography. Of course, the poker legislation makes no sense, so trying to reason why the lawmakers are regulating it but not other potentially addicting activities is pointless.

So you want our laws to contain the provision that any 2 random things that any 2 random people have ever referred to as "crack cocaine" are equivalent in the eyes of the law?

What I'm saying is that why is it so easy for an industry such as porn to be successful and yet iGambling has to be treated as the something that is evil and shouldn't be regulated? There is tax revenue to be made from iGambling and yet the US is missing out on it.

You're certainly right about the tax revenue, and I agree with you completely that it's BS what they've done with poker regulation in this country. But what you're saying is that if we ban one thing because it's bad, we have to ban everything. Or put another way, if I support one cause I believe in, I'm a hypocrite for not supporting another equally worthy cause. I'm not saying that either internet porno or internet poker should be banned, but I'm just trying to see it from the perspective of someone that would be against internet poker.

I'm not an opponent of either but it baffles me that one industry is creating tax revenue while the other is not.

The only thing that I have found to be "the crack cocaine" is, well crack. Silly analogy if you ask me.

disclaimer: I'm not endorsing smoking rock by any means. I don't smoke it anymore and would never recommend it to anyone.

The government made Ipoker illegal because we all need babysitters because we aren't responsible enough to manage our own money. That is why they regulate live poker in most parts of the country as well. There are some exceptions such as their state run lotterys that the make A LOT of money off of. Allowing online poker would cut down on these profits.

Gambling is a way for me to express myself therefore it should be legal under first amendment

I don' think gambling should be illegal, but I don't think this is a good way to argue it.
