The Surface range has been mildly successful, but that's it. Other than that they just rent-seek existing products.
huh, still called IE on my work computer (windows 7). I use that for all my work internet stuff because my company uses a lot of web based applications that don't reliably work in anything else.

+1 on what Chris said about MS. Their position as the winner of x86 OS put them in a position to make super ****ty products from Windows 3.0 until 98 and still control most of the market. I'm far less of a MS hater since 98 and the blue screen of death is rare and software generally just installs without an hour of ****ing around.

Any developer who makes web based software that only works in IE should be broken on the wheel.

Speaking of Musk, text messages supposedly between Grimes and Azealia Banks have been leaked (mildly NSFW):

Spoiler:

Cliffs: Dude has a big wang.

I think it's fine for intra company stuff. Everybody just uses IE.

Edge is only for Windows 10, so if your company's anything like mine it'll be 2020 before you can use it.

Wait, do we get to call them "machine guns" again? This is confusing.

Tesla has incinderated like $15 billion of capital and produced exactly zero technology other automakers don't already have.

I use VS Code both at work and home. TypeScript is pretty rad. The regular Visual Studio has always been good.

She must want to be the new Tomi Lahren and figured she has the right hair and skin color to try.

Another hot take. I believe Tesla has made significant innovations with respect to batteries.

Conservative, white blonde-haired girl du jour. You'd think they'd mix it up by throwing in somebody that doesn't look like an aging, failed porn star with the intelligence to match.

Panasonic makes the batteries. I think the hotter take is that $15B was "incinerated".

Teslas are awesome btw.

Let's get some more hot takes on Microsoft ITT. Go on give in and start spelling it with a dollar sign for the 's.' Then you can tell us how expensive Apple hardware is and how you're waiting for Mandrake Linux to crush both of them!

Apple was smart enough to dump its OS and just become a *NIX (BSD) skin. Too bad they are so damn expensive. Cult following will do that.

Apple's money grabs put M$ to shame. Some of their software should just be called a virus.

For someone like Musk, one must wonder whether this is a real leak or a "leak". I'm about 50-50 on this one.

Yeah, as much as the dick stuff, the part at the end with "Oh no Elon owns this, it's encrypted out the ass" made me wonder.

A+++ dedication, annoyed now because I don't think mine will arrive until September.

This post seems similar to what Bobman is talking about. Panasonic partnered with Tesla and is manufacturing the batteries for them, but without Tesla, which Musk deserves much of the credit for building, it seems like there would not be nearly the demand and investment in improving LI batteries. I don’t know a lot about this stuff, though. I do think it’s odd that people get so worked up over Musk when he’s a least dedicating his energy into more serious societal problems than, say the thousands of super intelligent people who go into finance or spend their energy developing an app that will allow people to have custom-flavored easy mac delivered directly to them at their couch.

Money,

I mostly agree.

But there's PLENTY of demand for improved lithium batteries. Cell phones, laptops, tablets, power tools etc all use the same stuff. Tesla uses 7104 small batteries in the 85kwh pack. And the Prius has been a much bigger driver of demand for lithium batteries in cars. There are 20 times as many Priuses on the road. And there are lots of other hybrids and full EVs out there.

But, as I said before, Teslas are awesome and they showed that electric cars can be excellent in the sport luxury market. I'm sure they have helped drive sales of other electrics.
