(Reuters) - Ted Nugent said on Wednesday that the U.S. Secret Service has arranged to meet with him after the rock musician severely criticized President Barack Obama during the National Rifle Association convention last week.

Nugent, who told the gun rights group last week that he would be "dead or in jail" next year if Obama is re-elected in November, appeared on conservative radio host Glenn Beck's show on Wednesday.

He was asked if he had heard from the Secret Service.

"We actually have heard from the Secret Service, and they have a duty, and I salute them. I support them and I'm looking forward to our meeting tomorrow," Nugent said on Beck's show.

I saw where the secret service had scheduled a meeting with him. That just seems odd and a waste of time. "Mr. Nugent? Yes, this is the secret service. We need to talk with you about what you said, because it sounds threatening. Can we schedule an appoint? How about Wednesday at n..........well, ok, if Thursday is better for you. Uh huh. Uh huh. Yes, that will be fine. Thanks!"

From that article it sounds like they're actually going to meet him backstage at his concert.

At some point common sense has to come into play. Nug isn't gonna kill the president, he's just a loudmouth.

You know who else was just a loudmouth? I think you do.

In all seriousness though, my experience (along with common sense) tells me if someone makes a passing comment about offing the President (although personally I think it was much more of a "Obama will try to take my guns if reelected and they'll have to pry them from my COLD DEAD HANDS" comment than a direct threat at the President) and the SS calls them up and they agree to meet, they're probably A) too stupid to accomplish a Presidential assassination, or B) aren't a credible threat.

Of course I work in the private sector, where financial restraints force me to investigate CREDIBLE threats, not every possible threat.
04-19-2012 , 08:23 PM
Isnt it specifically a crime to threaten to kill a president?

My friend had a rap song called How I Killed George Bush (the first one). He got a visit from the Secret Service one day. Made the local news in KC.

Holy **** it's on the internetz: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/2...BUSH-SONG.html

Kinda makes me lean toward Obama getting re-elected just to see Nugent's bluff called. Not a big fan of fake bravado.

Nugent's message IMO
