the rise of drumpfian politics is compelling but not enjoyable. imo ROW is bemused rather than amused*

i am however looking forward to the likely outcome (humiliating defeat for drumpf) and seeing how he deals with that, who takes the blame, whether his business suffers crippling hardship as a result of his failed campaign/disgraceful rhetoric & so on

*this extends to many things that the GOP has done and said in the last 25 odd years, but this does not reflect poorly on yanklandians in general given that the GOP have lost the popular prez vote 5/6 and probably 6/7

I don't think the ROW enjoys what's happening in the US.

There are lots of legitimate complaints about the US. And we clearly get a kick out of Americans claiming USA#1 when it's almost certainly not true in the ways it's often intended. But having a relatively stable USA is clearly good for everybody. And I'm sure Trump getting elected scares a good number of us.

as a non-USA#1ian, i'm scared of a trump presidency and don't find anything about it that funny

Hopefully people will realise that beating trump isn't the end of it. Some of the underlying problems that have led to such anger with the establishment need to be addressed or the dice will get rolled again and again.

USA is too powerful for us not to be deeply worried as well as laughing. Even the jokes have turned sour post brexit - many specific difference between brexit and trump but also a common underlying problem that has been neglected for years.

Well, 40% of the country apparently being absolutely awful people is way north of what I assumed a year ago, and I'm pretty cynical.

It says the system is awful and needs scrapped. We literally have a choice between 2 of the worst humans in the country.

Pretty much the new Rasmussen x10 for DNC you can pretty much throw all their polls out.
There was a Marist +9 in PA a couple of weeks ago, but the recent +9 was Suffolk. Because Hillary is going to win PA lol Shuffle lol youtubes lol not even trying to understand the world as it is instead of the world as you wish it was.

We are looking on in horror shaking our heads. The problem is that the US is not a far away island with no influence on the rest of the world.
The last time the US elected a terrible president it resulted in Europe getting involved in two wars and getting terrorism in return.

What this election comes down to is nationalism vs globalism. If you are in favor of globalism and having less self determination then Hillary is your person. If you favor nationalism and want your own country to determine its own future, trump is your guy. Plain and simple

Most people don't have the intellectual capacity to go against their peer group. How many otherwise normal decent people went along with the Nazis?

pretty sure it's racism vs decency.

Especially if that "own future" involves favorable status for white people.

Ghazala Khan (Khizr's wife) op-ed about why she didn't speak

Quote:
Donald Trump has asked why I did not speak at the Democratic convention. He said he would like to hear from me. Here is my answer to Donald Trump: Because without saying a thing, all the world, all America, felt my pain. I am a Gold Star mother. Whoever saw me felt me in their heart.

Donald Trump said I had nothing to say. I do. My son Humayun Khan, an Army captain, died 12 years ago in Iraq. He loved America, where we moved when he was 2 years old. He had volunteered to help his country, signing up for the ROTC at the University of Virginia. This was before the attack of Sept. 11, 2001. He didn’t have to do this, but he wanted to.
Quote:
I cannot walk into a room with pictures of Humayun. For all these years, I haven’t been able to clean the closet where his things are — I had to ask my daughter-in-law to do it. Walking onto the convention stage, with a huge picture of my son behind me, I could hardly control myself. What mother could? Donald Trump has children whom he loves. Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?
Devastating.

No decent people but plenty of normal people.

The most recent polls say Trump is losing Pennsylvania. Separate measures by Suffolk University and NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist put Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton up by 9 percentage points.
But I think the polls are wrong.

How do I know? Because I live in Pennsylvania — have for all my life, even though I work in the New York/New Jersey metro area.

OH NO

Shuffle, I will, generously, give you -110 on PA Clinton. How much you want?

Hey man you can't refute a hypothesis that is so strongly backed by facts such as "call it a hunch".

"Globalism" is just the 21st century way for Infowars types to reboot the Rothschild conspiracy theories for a new generation of socks and sandals pony tail guys who own far more guns than they should.

It doesn't ****ing mean anything.

What would you call Great Britain's rejection of Europe? Isn't that a rejection of globalism?

Who is that accurate pollster that pretty much nailed the last election, and what are his current projections? And what number of electoral votes does Hilldawg have locked-up and in her pocket, so we can project what combination of swing states she needs to 'ship?

The Kahn thing is proof the guy is just a complete ****ing idiot. This isn't a planned out thing.
