There's something additionally worse internationally.

We are seeing the rise of a deeply worrying extremism across the western world which is going to form links and bolster each other. Brexit has seen the emergence of something deeply odious in the UK but it wasn't enough to cause much contagion. Add the USA under trump and it might be.
