Yes in both system 5 and system 1 the public betting is one of the variables I consider. That is why the plays do not come out until shortly before game time.

Honestly you guys are ridiculous. Of course there is a way -- unsubscribe. Pretty crazy to effectively ask "Hey Rick, leeching off you is inconvenient, can you make it easier?"

If following a handicapper who gives out picks for free constitutes "leeching" then yea sure.

Everyone else is being pretty respectful to each other and I see no reason why you can't do so as well.

Maybe this is an argument about semantics, but to me, leeching is contributing little/nothing and getting something positive. I didn't mean it to be negative, but I wanted to point out that Rick is giving out valuable information for potentially nothing in return -- asking for something beyond that is quickly approaching greed.

don't be ridiculous. i only asked rickj to consider that every tweet going out is sent to a phone, and there have been a LOT of unnecessary tweets lately.

getting riled up at poogs or i is probably not productive. i can't vouch for poogs, but i know that i've defended rick and his right to post here for many years.

again, i was just making a suggestion. saying we're 'leeches' is pretty funny, that's basically the only reason rick posts and has a blog, to have followers.

Greg - I would have to think Rick would be appreciative of the input regarding posting frequency. If it were me receiving such feedback my response would be something along the lines of, "was not aware this would be a bother to some people via their phones. Thanks for letting me know so I can adjust my approach. I certainly don't want to provide an incentive for people to unsubscribe who otherwise do still want the service."

I understand what you guys are saying, and I agree that the term leeching (despite me not intending on using it in an offensive manner) may have been too strong.

With that said, look at it from Rick's perspective. His handicapping is heavily based on public betting, which is more precise minutes before a game starts. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect posts per each time slot. Similarly, I love that Rick posts all his system tests before the games as well. Perhaps people like you and I would believe Rick if he said he privately tested a system and these were the results, but we may not represent the average person following Rick; those people might only be reassured of the validity of the testing systems if they saw the picks were in before the game.

only tweet out plays is my suggestion. ez game.

getting a handful of texts on a sunday at 10am (which is still basically middle of the night for me) that are all 'there has been a new post' is really, really tilting.

edit: i have been known to roll over, see a play, get on a mobile client and bet it right then and go back to sleep. not talking about the number of texts/posts coming out before games, just the unnecessary ones.
