sports.com (click "live odds") tells you what each line opened at and where it is now.

Out of curiosity, anybody here old enough and gambling long enough to remember what the spread was in the 1991 UNLV vs Dook game? What was UNLV -8.5 in that game? That would be my guess. Richie Perry made good that game and the rest of the country was screwed. How did that spread end up going down?

There were no offshore books at this time and no lines in Vegas so only street bookies had lines on it...I think that number was in the ballpark...I do remember betting 1k on Duke and having no hope before the first half was done.

The next year I believe was the famous Webber timeout when the whole country laid 4,4.5,5,5.5 with Carolina and had no chance of covering until Webber did that

In the late eighties or early nineties the Stanford-Cal line went from -3 to -16 and the move covered.

What? I thought sports lines have existed in Vegas since the 1970's with Frank Rosenthal and the mafia starting it all up. Your trying to tell me Vegas didn't have a line on a Final Four game in 1991?

You have your years backwards as well. I'm referring to 1991 where UNLV ****ed around trying to screw up a spread for Richie Perry and lost outright. Not 1990 when UNLV layed the biggest ass whooping in championship game history on dook. The 1990 championship game would have been what UNLV -4? The next year after the 91 game I'm referring too was dook over the fab 5. Then came my 1993 UNC team. I cannot believe we were actually favored in that game if your numbers are in fact correct

IIRC this game was one of those SCORE releases, which they would do once near the end of each season.

Another game like this was USC-UCLA football, I believe 1986. UCLA opened -6, SCORE released UCLA Saturday morning, and line closed around -20. Of course they covered.

At that time there was a law that prohibited wagering on Nevada teams so Vegas books could not post lines on UNLV..NC was a 4-5 point fav in that game I remember because I had them..I believe they were up 2 with about 15 sec left when he did that,2 foul shots made both, ball out of bounds to UNC,foul again make both..game over

What he said. Betting on teams located in Nevada, and I believe betting on events involving college teams playing in Nevada (IE college bowl games and tournament basketball games) didn't become legal until 2001. So no lines could be posted.

Kids got no sense of history.......where did I leave my glasses.......grumble, grumble......

Yah I just saw this, opened at 10:23 am at 5.5 and up to -1 at 1:11 pm. Some sort of backstory to this? Injury effect linesmakers under or over compensated for?
