NI is a solid Derby contender.

If V or NI run great pre-Derby workouts, I put more stock in that than how they finished the race post-finish line.

Najd i would agree with that myself...I am not a big gallop out person myself either,i know i hear Hoover preach on it and is a key to his capping, and obv ATS puts stock into it,and to each their own in this wacked game lol...I want this weekend, like Najd give me a workout prior, and i will have my choice. Right now imo its Orb from what my eyes tell me.

here's my take on Normandy Invasion - he's got 1 win a MSW thats it. i realise horses improve consistently month to month the 1st half of their 3 yr old season, but some horses look decent/good but never win. they're always just good enough to make it close and bad enough to lose. its always something - if he got a better trip, if he wasn't on the rail, if he wasnt in the 10+ gate, if the pace was faster, if the jock moved him sooner.

i mean i like this horse but he hasn't won a goddamn race other than a maiden, how do you bet him to win in kentucky? i cant do it.

I couldn't agree more. Having a bad trip is one thing, rookie jock, etc. Not being able to win consistently is a much bigger issue imo.

With all that being said, its pretty sick that Castellano chose to ride him in the Derby over Revolutionary (who has shown to be pretty much the exact opposite and finds a way to win despite the factors that you mentioned).

Sick indeed.

I feel like I say this every year but I feel like this is worst 3 year old crop in sometime. (Said it last year, the year prior as well).

I actually like NI. Unless somebody shows up huge in the Blue Grass or Arkansas he is my early choice.

hey room. its good to see action in here again. last time i stopped by it was a ghost town. hope all is well with everyone. as far as the derby im surprised my man gomez doesbt have a mount yet. It better be offered soon. no matter what this palace malace does gomez wont stick. Glad rasario has been kicking ass and taking names ( and juliens horses at keenland) Orb to me seems like the smarest horse of the bunch and golden cents really showed his smartness with fast fractions and just did what the trainer and jock said hold tight stalk and killed baring injury and slop and the 1,2,3, hole these are the 2 i take nothing away from verrazano he has heart alot but the race was the race slow

Sgvoak welcome back my man, been awhile. Just the slower time of the yr when it goes quiet here,or the horses give us nothing to say which has been often the last year and a half. Glad you put a smile on,and got to the track...It really ticks me off i have never been there, because i would of been right there in the grandstands with you...

Still making a few wagers, usually i go back to my old school wagering and just roll the card where i see value DD's or PK3's excluding favs, but most of my time is directed at tourny play now,and capping.

Big weekend at Keeneland and Oaklawn looking forward to everyones opinions itt.

Just got to catch yesterdays replays from SA and MizD just likes to win, that was a nice close...I remember BigZ doing that to St Trinnian or something like that and that horse was never the same.

Overanaylze imo has to be considered a solid player for the KYD now...That horse was hopping over ground the last 300 yards, and for ATS where i do pay attention after is when a gallop out is out of the screen and he was, ears pricked and a very happy horse. Good to be Todd P huh? Sheesh...John V only one butt, and so many choices, but how could he not go with Verrazano.

Agreed, Overanalyze was very impressive. Anyone know what happened to War Academy? Seemed to be cruising along in a nice little position and next thing I knew Mike Smith was (actually) walking him home :-( I gather the horse wasn't injured at least?

Jockey said War Academy took 4 or 5 awkward steps, so he pulled up to play it safe. Baffert says horse on its way to Derby.

War Academy has 0 points. Even if he runs and wins the Lexington Stakes he's still not likely to qualify. Consider him out.

Really enjoyed this thread! Here is my try at contributing to it.

I am really new to horse racing but it has gradually captured my imagination after attending some live races over the past few years at Churchill Downs and Hoosier Park. I am not someone who can typically enjoy half measures of things, and once something sparks my interest I get really into it!

I have done some research on betting styles/strategy and found that I really enjoy exotics with the Trifecta being my favorite. It may be because the first bet I ever made on a horse race was a $5 straight trifecta at Churchill Downs on the first race of the day. It hit (it was all the favorites and paid $150 total) and I have been hooked ever since. I have read Steven Christ's "Exotic Betting" and that helped my understanding of things tremendously.

With that said I can still barely read the program... but have tried to improve my "capping" by studying DRF's "Race of the Day" in which they provide free past posts for one race a day. I then write out a $20 wager and see how I do. Occasionally I will actually venture to the OTB in town and place the wager depending on my work schedule and when the race actually takes place. I had a nice $400 score on an Exacta/Tri-Wheel at Pimlico last week so that has really set the horse sickness in! I thought it would be fun and a learning experience for me to post these picks here so everyone can see how I do and give me feedback or CRAP.

Here is the GARRETT DRF RACE OF THE DAY for 4-16-13

A solid contender for the Derbt/Very impressive? What race were you guys watching? Overanalyze ran an 88 Beyer and it was the slowest Arkansas Derby since 1978.

Cashed my Tri-Wheel ticket for a .10 profit but lost on the exactas. I was not able to place a bet on this race due to my local OTB being closed on Tuesdays. If I had been at the OTB and saw what the odds were I probably would of scratched my Trifecta ticket and used the additional $12 for more/higher dollar amount exactas.

I think the #4 shouldn't be ignored. He looks like the most likely winner to me.
