Wow that was a great beginners intro by PTL. Also there is no other feeling like being alive in a pick 3 or 4 and not having all the horses and you have to wait 30 minutes before the race goes off. I know you can hedge your bets and win a flat amount, but what would be the fun in that.

it'd seem today's is easy to fig on figs since the 1 Gem of Soul at 6-1 has run to or over par in all 4 of the stateside turf races. not the worst cash play, but i'd guess if the beyers are like the bris, this one goes off at 5/2.

there's a pacefig trend i've had luck with over the years with the 2 Score Boyera at 12-1 that makes her a decent contest stab. two back the e1 & e2 figs were 20+ points over par. i like that, but moreso i like when the hoss stops and is beaten a dozen plus. she hung around too well and therefore an off race was predictable last out. note the date of that. 6 days ago. if that was a prep, the 2 back pacefigs give her a shot.

One last question, are pick 3s and pick 4s consider 3+ horse exotic wagering? If not what is the tracks takeout on those bets?

I'm not sure, but you can ask at the track. You can play the Daily Double which is like a pic 2. I think originally that the Daily Double was the first 2 races. Then they added a Late Double which is the last 2 races. Now we can see this type of wagering throughout a racing program. Some bets are very good values. It all depends on the track that you are betting. I think at some tracks there might be a 0% takeout. Again ask at the track or you might be able to find the deals in the Daily Racing Form or http://www.drf.com

Some pic 6 bets can be a good value, but I don't play them and I'm not sure how it works. Also when I said "a strong horse" in the show parlay bet, you should generally bet the morning line Favorite or even better, the Favorite according to the Tote board. Don't be surprised to see the odds jump all over the place.

after hitting the mott in race 9, the worst i can do is break even today. try one more in dmr9. #2 at 12-1. 1st clm for bone, protected + 1st salix too. could be live.

I personally hate betting the west coast tracks. Had a decent day at Saratoga today giving it all back on Monmouth and Del Mar.

Nobody should feel bad about struggling during the dog days. It's just so difficult to pick well. At least it is for me. I depend on subpar animals to "get there" for the prices. In the summer they've often already put in their over par tries. That leaves this handicapper figuring who's gonna run back to their good efforts. Much harder than projecting a new lifetime best for a winter/spring 3 or 4 year old.

Might behoove me to take the summer off. Who am I kidding. If they run 'em around an oval I'm bettin'.
