So the line at most sportsbooks is Lakers -180 for the series but there is another betting line that you can bet on the number of games the Lakers win it in and the odds go something like
Lakers in 4 11/2
Lakers in 5 7/2
Lakers in 6 3/1
Lakers in 7 7/2

so what is there to stop me from betting on this line instead, and paying about
even money to win the series?

OK these are slightly diff odds from a diff sportsbook but these are the actual odds I would be betting on. I would'nt even necessarily need to bet on them to win 4-0 because that is very unlikely in my view.

4-0 46 to win 300
4-1 100 to win 300
4-2 80 to win 300
4-3 67 to win 300

so 293 to win 300 instead of the series line of 580 to win 300.

Rethink your logic. You don't get the 293 back if you win, only the part you won.

After risking $293

2 of those (4-1 and 4-2) would make me more money than the current line

While 4-3 would be slightly lower and 4-0 would be much lower, but like I said I don't think 4-0 is very plausible so If I take that bet out I think? this would work out better. Maybe I'll do the math again without them winning 4-0

Believe me I have been trying to outthink the linesmakers for years and you won't do it. If you really like the lakers and think they will sweep then def bet the 11/2 shot to sweep. Bet em all and you will net lose somehow I am sure.

Anyhow I really like the Celtics in this series and think it is a no brainer and the extra money is a bonus. You heard it here first.

My best middle ever was when the celtics were playing the sixers in 2003(pretty sure) and I had the celtics plus five for four dimes and philly minus two for two dimes. .07 seconds left(less than one second) and Derek Coleman on the line up three points(philly) shooting two. He is a seventy percent free throw shooter and he hit them both. Celts lost by five. Pushed the four dimer and won the two dimer. Very exciting.

I really like the Celts in this series and have been pretty right about them so far. I bet Cleveland three times in that series and was right twice. I bet the celtics twice last series and was right both times. GO CELTS!
