Was this a terrible play on the turn? Was this a terrible play on the turn?

First off, I know that my pre-flop call and flop call were terrible. I just want your insight on my play on the turn.

The game is 1/2 NL cash game

Villain has 345 in chips
I have a little over 400 in chips

So villain is UTG; seems like a tight player who sometimes over bets his mediocre hands to switch things up I suppose. I'm even tighter and so far throughout the night he has respected most of my raises and most of my showdowns have been top pair top kicker or better.

So villain limps in, and 1 player in middle position raises to 12, a second player behind him bumps it to 25 and cutoff calls. Table has been pretty loose with the pre-flop calls and I haven't seen a flop in awhile and 4-6 of spades on the button is the only decent hand I've seen in 45 mins. so I call.

Villain calls. Flop is 9-2-3 with the 2 and 3 being clubs giving me a gut shot straight draw. Villain checks, middle positon C-bets, called by the 3rd and 4th player, I call, and villain bumps it to 100.
The other players fold, and I start to wonder if he has switched gears and has decided to over bet his mediocre hands again. I decide to call and try to take it down on the turn if it is a scare card.

Turn is a Q of clubs. Villain looks nervous, tanks and after about a minute to a minute and a half raises to 80. Which to me shouted weak

I am putting him on two pair, possibly a set. If he has 2 pair or less, he will fold to a big raise. A set, quite possibly if I give him terrible odds to see the river. I know that he knows I did not call the flop without some sort of draw. If I had a set or two pair then I would of bumped it to scare away the flush draw on the flop.

So I try and represent the flush. That and I still got a gut shot straight draw to back me up. I shove him all in for his remaining 140.

Was this play terrible?

Spoiler:
Villain spends at least 5 minutes tanking, finally grimaces and says, "I guess I'll call. I only got a 6 high flush" River is an Ace of clubs and villain shows 4-6 of clubs. FML I don't even have one club in my hand, and guy calls with a 6 high flush....

are you high? why are you calling flop? why are you calling flop after another raise?

he already put in half of his chips into the pot on the turn
I don't think he folds two pair, he just calls to spike a boat on the river

I don't know if he knows this, but you can't bet/fold the turn without complete air

Haha I guess I know it was a stupid play, just wanted insight on it. Upon retrospect, yes I was giving my money away.

I called pre-flop b/c I havent seen any half decent hands in ages and I had a feeling blinds or maybe cutoff would call and I would get 5:1 on my money plus position with a suited one gapper.

I called the flop cuz villain's raise just seemed fishy to me and I felt that I could steal the pot from him. I mean he had a 6 high flush... I think a lot of decent players would of folded that turn with a 6 high flush?

Bad calls, bad read, bad play

I don't like your reasoning at all here. Just look at the odds he get, I don't know exactly how much money there is in the pot when you shove on the turn but it should be about $715 Besides, as iopq says, you don't bet/fold turn here with a flush or a made hand.

The flop is a 5-way, everyone called the $25 raise pre, ($125) MP c-bets and lets assume this bet is a small one like $30, you, the 3rd and 4th players call this and then villian c/r to $100 and you call. The pot is now $415.

On the turn he bets $80 and you shove, he now has to call $140 in a $715 pot.

Have you ever seen a player fold a made flush, no matter how low when he needs to call $140 to win $855?
