Dirty-

I understand that you are really going for the noir humor here, but its just pretty lame. No one is really shocked; most just don't think it is funny.

Wow, I just read through the gw/hiv thread. Unreal how long that lasted and lol at the rake paid.

Your are sure he is joking?

It doesn't matter if it is true or not, his goal is to shock your values.... noir humor is cool like that.

I'm confused.

Going to a pub quiz tonight. It's fun and all, but I don't think we have ever come higher than last. Last time a question came up - 'What 'T' is the practice of stuffing dead animals?' I was the only one (out of 5) who got it. ffs my 14 yo sister could answer that.

Reading a bunch of history books at the moment in preperation for starting Uni in September, just finished Stalingrad which was excellent and I'm now about to read Rubicon which looks pretty sweet. Anyone got any suggestions of other good books to read?

Clifford the Big Red Dog is fairly gripping imo

This is probably going to sound ******ed, but Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle is a fiction book with a lot of history/explanation of the 17th century. Name of the Rose by Eco is a similiar kind of thing (except 13th century), though I found it much tougher going.

Lake deck opens tonight for the first time of the summer in the nearby resort town. I imagine I'll be spun out by 8pm. Not really much else going on. I haven't played since tiltfest the other day. If I wake up and am not hungover I'm planning on playing that turbo takedown thing. Looks a tad nippy out there for a golf round guess I'll finish The Office season 2.

Anyone here ever play Settlers of Catan? Prolly the best board game ever, but want to get some peoples input on optimal strategy.

Also - why is the Real World so rediculous?
05-23-2008 , 03:27 PM
first softball game last night. we lost 19-13 since we only had 8 in the field (you can have 10).

However, I did hit 2 home runs, 1 off the scoreboard in left and one to left center. Only 2 home runs of the game for either team. Go pro?
05-23-2008 , 03:27 PM
Snipe,

Settlers is gangsta. Do you have the add-ons as well?
05-23-2008 , 03:28 PM
Snipe I'd have to agree. I'm not sure what the optimal strategy is, but the strategy I use has had pretty good results; I definitely win more than my fair share of games. When choosing the spots I always try to make sure I can get a lot of ore and wheat (as long as they aren't on the real ****ty numbers). I then try to upgrade to cities ASAP, and build 2 more settlements. For the last 2 points (8 from the 4 cities) I usually try to get largest army or something, cause I like getting development cards. If I get stuck early I just start buying the cards. The soldiers are nice if you need 1 resource cause you can just target whoever you know has it. Meh, idk how well I explained it.

cliffnotes: get ore and wheat and cities

keyser you will see pictures when i can get online via wireless instead of internet cafe. maybe tomorrow we will see depending on how fast the connect is.

today we tried going to the uffzi museum but we ignorantly went to a different one instead right around the corner. so went to pisa and saw the leaning tower and chilled out. exchange rates are pretty brutal right now and killing my traveling mates.

tomorrow is rome. cant wait.

Orange,

When I was in Italy the time before last the girls insisted we go to the Uffzi gallery. The line was about 3 hours (thanks to the electric signs telling us so) and once inside I fell asleep on a bench and saw nothing. Hope you're experience was better.

You should go to the McDonalds in Rome with all the statues and whatnot, it's a pretty silly site (assuming you're going to do all the 'standard' stuff, so I won't mention it).
05-23-2008 , 03:42 PM
yeah delta i dunno. id really love to go to it but the line was insane and roomies sister didnt want to go and was sitting back in hostel. so blah, guess ill have to do it next time i come here.

we havel ike 4 full days in rome though so i m really pumped for that. gotta grab some purses for mother and sisters as well as other junk on the vendors, that should be fun.

O-man,

How much longer are you in Italy? The Cinque Terra (Italian Rivera) is one of the most amazing places I've been to and I'd def recommend it for just relaxing and whatnot, if it's possible. It's prob too late, since you're already in Italy, but taking the Aiguille Du Midi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aiguille_du_Midi

from Chamonix, France, over Mt Blanc and the Alps into Italy to the Italian Riveria IS, bar none, the most amazing thing I've ever done.
